STEREOTIP DAN IDENTITAS TOKOH DALAM NOVEL MALAIKAT LERENG TIDAR KARYA REMY SYLADO: KAJIAN POSKOLONIAL

INTISARI Penelitian ini menggunakan objek material berupa novel Malaikat Lereng Tidar dan dianalisis menggunakan teori poskolonialisme. Pemilihan teori poskolonialisme untuk digunakan sebagai pisau analisis didasarkan pada asumsi bahwa novel Malaikat Lereng Tidar menunjukkan terbentuknya berbagai stereotip dan identitas dari adanya pertemuan antarbangsa pada masa kolonial. Bentuk stereotip muncul dari adanya oposisi biner yaitu Barat dan Timur. Dalam penelitian ini, Barat direpresentasikan oleh tokoh-tokoh bangsa Belanda, sedangkan Timur direpresentasikan oleh tokoh-tokoh bangsa Indonesia dan Siam. Dengan menggunakan kerangka berpikir poskolonialisme, penelitian ini berfokus mencari dampak dari kolonialisme bangsa Belanda di Indonesia yang dimunculkan oleh pengarang dalam novel tersebut. Hasil penelitian ini memperlihatkan bahwa pertemuan antarbangsa yang bersinggungan menciptakan stereotip dari masing-masing sudut. Stereotip dari bangsa Belanda merupakan oposisi dari persepsi diri berkaitan dengan superioritas, berpikir rasional, sosok yang cerdas, dan memiliki visi kemenangan atas perang. Sementara itu, novel ini menunjukkan bagian yang menonjol mengenai representasi Barat yang membelot dan berpihak pada bangsa pribumi. Tokoh Barat tersebut kontra akan keberadaan pihak Belanda melalui pemikiran dan tindakan sehingga memunculkan pergolakan oleh kaum bangsa Belanda sendiri . Stereotip berkaitan erat dengan terbentuknya identitas tokoh dalam novel. Identitas yang terbentuk antara lain adalah ambivalensi, mimikri, dan hibriditas. Pertemuan budaya antarbangsa membentuk identitas tokoh dalam novel tersebut. Dalam penceritaan novel ini, peneliti melihat yang muncul lebih dominan adalah bentuk stereotip. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa pengarang ingin memfokalisasikan persepsinya terhadap pembaca. Pengarang menggunakan novel Malaikat Lereng Tidar untuk melakukan kritik sosial, yakni dengan menunjukkan bahwa adanya pihak Barat yang justru lebih membela pihak pribumi, sedangkan bangsa pribumi sendiri masih berkiblat pada bangsa Barat dan masih berlangsung hingga saat ini. ABSTRACT This research uses novel Malaikat Lereng Tidar as material object and analyzed using post-colonial theory. Post-colonial theory is used based on the assumption that the novel Malaikat Lereng Tidar showed the formation of stereotypes and identity to the character is the result from the meeting between nations in the colonial period. Stereotypes shape emerged from their binary opposition between the West and the East. In this study, the West represented by figures of the Dutch, while the East is represented by figures of Indonesia and Siam. By using the framework of post-colonial thinking, this study focuses to look for the impact of Dutch colonialism in Indonesia that were presented by the author in the novel. This study shows that the meeting between nations that intersect, creating stereotypes from each nation itself. Stereotypes of the Dutch nation is the opposition of self perceptions with regard to superiority, rational thinking, intelligent figure, and has a vision of victory over the war. Meanwhile, this novel shows the protruding part of the representation of the West who defected and sided with the indigenous peoples. That character will counter the presence of the Dutch side through the thoughts and actions that led to the upheaval by the Dutch themselves. Stereotypes are closely related to the formation of the identity of characters in the novel. Identities that formed is ambivalence, mimicry and hybridity. Cultural encounters among nations forming the identity of a character in the novel. In this novel, the researcher saw that the form of stereotypes appears more dominant. This shows that the author wants to focalized the perceptions of the reader. Author uses novel Malaikat Lereng Tidar to do social criticism, namely by showing that the western parties who actually prefer to defend the natives, while the indigenous peoples themselves are still oriented to the West and has continued until today.
