Konsep gender performativity Judith Butler dan epistemology of the closet Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick digunakan untuk melihat bagaimana identitas queer direpresentasikan.

This study examines the dynamics of queer identity oscillation in Édouard Louis’s novel En finir avec Eddy Bellegueule and Abdellah Taïa’s Infidèles through the lens of metamodernism. This study aims to examine the patterns of queer identity representation in two French-language literary works originating from different regional contexts: France and the Maghreb. This analysis examines the representation of patterns of queer identity in French and Francophone Maghreb literature, as well as the factors driving the oscillatory movement in these novels. This study employs an interpretative qualitative method through the perspectives of queer theory and metamodernism. Judith Butler’s concept of gender performativity and Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick’s concept of epistemology of the closet are used to examine how queer identity is represented. Additionally, the metamodern perspective of Vermeulen & Van Den Akker is utilized to examine how queer identity moves and oscillates. The results of the study indicate that the queer identities in both novels are unstable, both moving in an oscillatory manner. Both novels exhibit a dynamic pattern of oscillation, fluctuating between various poles. Furthermore, the form of queer identity oscillation in both novels is influenced by social, cultural, and religious aspects. Both novels also share a common underlying pattern: they are both governed by power relations. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that queer identities in both novels are never in a stable condition and continuously oscillate under the influence of external factors within the texts, while remaining in an ongoing process of becoming.
