Kespesifikan Latar dalam Novel Garis Batas Karya Agustinus Wibowo

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggambaran unsur-unsur latar, hubungan antarunsur latar dengan unsur lain, dan fungsi latar dalam novel Garis Batas karya Agustinus Wibowo. Pemilihan novel tersebut sebagai objek material karena latar dideskripsikan secara dominan dan spesifik sehingga dapat dianalisis menggunakan teori struktur novel. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik baca dan catat. Analisis data dilakukan dengan metode deskriptif analisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa novel Garis Batas terdiri atas latar yang dideskripsikan secara spesifik. Latar tempat terdiri atas latar mayor dan minor yang didominasi oleh deskripsi bernuansa negatif. Latar waktu terdiri atas waktu dalam sehari, waktu dalam sebulan, waktu dalam setahun, periode sejarah, iklim dan cuaca, serta durasi waktu. Latar sosial-budaya terbagi menjadi latar sosial, budaya, serta agama dan kepercayaan. Ketiga unsur latar yang saling berhubungan dengan unsur cerita lain membentuk keutuhan cerita. Unsur latar dalam novel ini memiliki fungsi sebagai metafora dan atmosfer. Hasil analisis latar dalam novel Garis Batas menunjukkan bahwa latar dideskripsikan secara spesifik untuk mengungkap identitas negeri-negeri di Asia Tengah.

This research aims to describe elements of setting, the relationship between elements of setting and other elements, and the functions of setting in the novel Garis Batas by Agustinus Wibowo. The novel was selected based on the setting that described dominantly and specifically so it can be analyzed using novel structure theory. Data was collected using reading and note-taking technique. Data analysist was carried out using descriptive analysis method. The result of the research show that the novel Garis Batas consists of a setting that is specifically described. The setting consists of major and minor settings which are dominated by descriptions with negative nuances. The time setting consists of the time of day, time of month, time of ears, climate and weather, and duration of time. The social-cultural background is divided into social, cultural, also religious and belief backgrounds. The three settings are interconnected with other story elements to form the whole of the story. Elements of setting in this novel has functions as metaphor and atmosphere. The result of the elements of setting analysis in the novel Garis Batas show that the setting is described specifically to reveal the identity of the countries in Central Asia.
