KONSEP GIRI DALAM FILM 47 ROUNIN: ANALISIS SEMIOTIK ROLAND BARTHES

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan tanda dalam film yang mewakili sesuatu dan menjelaskan makna film. Objek material penelitiannya, yaitu film 47 Ronin karya Carl Rinsch. Film ini terinspirasi dari cerita sejarah tentang 47 Gishi, yang menggambarkan perjuangan dan kesetiaan sekelompok samurai tak bertuan (ronin) dalam mengembalikan nama baik tuannya, Tuan Asano. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan semiotik Roland Barthes yang memiliki dua tahap analisis pemaknan. Hal tersebut dilakukan untuk menerima pesan dari tanda-tanda dengan struktur makna ganda, yang disebut denotasi dan konotasi. Dari kedua makna tersebut akan memunculkan "mitos" yang merupakan inti dari analisis. Menurut Barthes, mitos mewakili makna yang utuh sebagai tempat ideologi. Langkah-langkah analisisnya adalah sebagai berikut; pertama, adegan dalam film dipotong ke dalam 7 scene. Kedua, tiap scene dikaji secara pemaknaan dalam dua tahap sehingga dapat memunculkan makna sesungguhnya. Dengan demikian, dapat dipahami makna denotasi dan makna konotasinya sebagai mitos. Mitos inilah yang akan dianggap sebagai makna film. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa film 47 Rounin, pertama secara verbal dan non verbal merepresentasikan etika bushido. Hal tersebut disebut sebagai makna denotasi dan konotasi. Kedua, dari representasi etika bushido didapatkan makna selanjutnya. Makna tersebut yaitu giri, sebuah konsep dalam pandangan masyarakat jepang diartikan sebagai hutang yang harus dilunasi. Giri yang kuat sehingga rounin melakukan balas dendam, inilah yang dianggap sebagai mitos dalam film. Balas dendam tersebut merupakan suatu kesetiaan yang harus dijunjung tinggi oleh para ronin. Selain itu, giri yang kuat dalam diri mereka menjadi keberanian terhadap segala pengorbanan untuk mengembalikan nama baik Tuan Asano. Tidak hanya harta benda dan keluarga, bahkan mereka rela untuk melakukan seppuku setelah nama baik Tuan Asano dikembalikan sebagai penebusan dosa dan mengakhiri hidup.

This research aims to find and explain the hidden symbols represented in movie. The object of this research is a movie by Carl Rinsch entitled 47 Ronin. This movie is inspired by the history about 47 gishi. The story describes the struggle and loyalty of masterless group samurai (ronin) in order to restore the reputation of their master, Mr. Asano. This research applies semiotic approach by Roland Barthes. There are two stages that will be conducted in order to analyze Barthes' semiotics. It follows the activity of receiving message of the sign from all over realm which has two double meanings (denotation and connotation). In Barthes' approach, both meanings will emerge as "myth" which is also the basis of semiotic analysis. The step of analysis are; first, the sequence in the film is trimmed into 7 scenes. Second, each scene is reviewed in terms of its meaning into two stages so that it will lead to the real meaning. Thus, it can be perceived that denotation and connotation act as its myth. According to Barthes, myth represents intact meaning as the ideology. This myth will be considered as the meaning of the film. The result of this research concludes that the film 47 Ronin primarily, both verbally and non-verbally represent the Bushido ethics. It is regarded as denotation and connotation. The second, the next meaning is concluded through the representation of Bushido ethics. It is called giri, a concept based the Japanese people perspective that can be interpreted as debt which should be settled. The main point being emphasized as a myth on this film is the strong giri that drives a rounin into revenge. Revenge is a way of proving loyalty which ought to be upheld by the ronins. Apart from that, strong giri within themselves has transformed them to be brave for making sacrifice in order to restore their master's honor. Not only family and wealth, they even would be willing to commit seppuku after clearing Mr. Asano's name reestablished as a way to demostrate redemption.
