STUDI PROSUMPTION E-BOOK DALAM BINGKAI SIRKUIT BUDAYA (FENOMENA E-BOOK GRATIS DALAM SITUS MEMBACACEPAT.COM)

Kajian utama tesis ini adalah mencoba untuk melihat fenomena e-book gratis Speed Reading for Beginners yang hanya dapat diunduh melalui pendaftaran email newsletter dari situs MembacaCepat.com. Internet, melalui Web 2.0, turut membentuk budaya baru dalam kaitannya mengubah relasi pada konsumen yaitu mengkonsumsi dan disaat yang sama memproduksi apa yang dikonsumsi. Hal ini menjadi fokus kajian untuk dieksplorasi lebih lanjut bagaimana praktik-praktik produksi dan konsumsi, atau disebut prosumsi, berlangsung pada agen yang sama melalui dua agen utama yang berperan, yaitu pengelola situs (Muhammad Noer) dan pengunduh e-book. Metode yang digunakan pada studi ini adalah etnografi virtual dengan memanfaatkan media internet sebagai perantara untuk memungkinkan dilakukannya wawancara dengan informan. Pada bagian analisis, studi ini mencoba menggunakan bingkai sirkuit budaya dalam melihat pola yang terjadi digambarkan layaknya sebuah sirkuit pada praktik prosumsi yang berlangsung. Sedangkan untuk memahami implikasi yang terjadi dari praktik tersebut, studi ini menggunakan teori prosumsi dan ko-kreasi. Hasil dari studi ini menyingkap bentuk-bentuk keterlibatan aktif sekaligus eksploitasi yang terjadi terhadap pengunduh e-book dan mencoba melihat lebih lanjut bagaimana dapat dijadikan sebuah kritik bahwa dibalik kebebasan dan kreatifitas prosumer (digambarkan pada pengunduh e-book) terdapat motif ekonomi politik dari praktik-praktik tersebut melalui eksploitasi sebagai tenaga kerja tanpa dibayar dan sebagai objek untuk target pasar produk premium dari situs MembacaCepat.com.

The main study of this thesis tries to see the phenomenon of free Speed Reading for Beginners e-book which can only be downloaded through email newsletter registration in MembacaCepat.com. Internet, through Web 2.0, helped in building a new culture related to change consumer relations that they consumed and at the same time, they produced what they consumed. It becomes the focus of this study to be explored further on how the practices of production and consumption, or called as prosumption, took place at the same agency through two main agencies who play a role, the web manager (Muhammad Noer) and the e-book downloaders. The method used in this study is a virtual ethnography by utilizing internet as an intermediary to enable an interview with informants. In the analysis, this study attempts to use the frame of circuit of culture to see the pattern like a circuit described in ongoing prosumption practices. Meanwhile, in understanding the implications from those practices, this study uses prosumption and co-creation theory. The result of this study reveals all forms of the active involvement and exploitation at the same time toward the e-book downloaders and tries to see further how those practices can be used as a critique that behind the freedom and the creativity of prosumer (portrayed on e-book downloaders), there is economy politics motive from those practices through the exploitation as labors without pay and as an object for the target market of premium products from MembacaCepat.com.
