Analisis pengaruh konteks organisasional terhadap peran strategis chief information officer

Teknologi informasi (TI) telah menjadi salah satu sumber daya strategis pada banyak organisasi saat ini. Sebagai pimpinan puncak bagian TI, chief information officer (CIO) memegang peranan penting bagi keberhasilan pemanfaatan TI. Seiring dengan tingginya peran TI dalam organisasi, CIO harus memiliki peran strategis, lebih dari sekedar peran taktis maupun peran operasional. Dengan menggunakan model yang telah dikembangkan oleh Smaltz (2000), penelitian ini berusaha mengidentifikasi pengaruh sejumlah faktor yang berkaitan dengan konteks organisasi. Data untuk penelitian ini didapat dari kuesioner yang diserahkan secara langsung dan secara online melalui media web, selanjutnya hipothesis diuji menggunakan analisis regresi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan adanya pengaruh dari lima faktor konteks organisasional; reporting level of CIO, top management executive team membership, extent of internal networking, TMT’s strategic IT knowledge, dan organizational vision of IT terhadap peran strategis CIO. Hasil tersebut menunjukan pentingnya konteks organisasional terhadap peran strategis CIO. Hasil dari penelitian ini diharapkan mampu menjadi pertimbangan bagi organisasi yang memanfaatkan TI sebagai salah satu sumber daya bersaing.

Today, Information Technology (IT) has become a strategic resource for many organizations. As IT unit top executive, Chief Information Officer (CIO) has an important roles for successful utilization of IT resources. Along with an increasing IT roles in organization, CIO should have more strategic roles rather than tactical or operational. Using a model have developed by Smaltz (2000), this studies investigated the impact of a number of factors related to organizational context. Data collected directly from respondents and webs surveying, furthermore hypothesis test using a regression analysis. The results of this research is all five organizational context factors; reporting level of CIO, top management executive team membership, extent of internal networking, TMT’s strategic IT knowledge, and organizational vision of IT have an influence with strategic roles of CIO. These results show how much important organizational factors towards to strategic roles of CIO. The results of this research expected to be a consideration for organization which using IT as one of competitive resources.
