The rapid growth of social media has contributed to the emergence of mindless scrolling, a habit of consuming digital content continuously without a clear purpose. This behavior may lead to brainrot, a popular term referring to the decline of an individual's cognitive capacity, which can be characterized by impaired concentration and mood disturbances. Together with Aviscope Production, the Director sought to deliver a social critique of this phenomenon through the short fiction film Rot in Pixels. This final project report describes the Director’s creative process throughout the pre-production, production, and post-production stages of Rot in Pixels. Employing the psychological thriller genre, the Director developed an artistic vision aimed at creating a sense of curiosity and discomfort within a realistic and pessimistic tone. The screenplay was translated into an audiovisual narrative through an emphasis on actor direction and the effective use of visual language. The film is expected to provide Generation Z audiences with a reflective viewing experience regarding their digital media consumption habits and their consequences, while also serving as a reference for short film creations that address contemporary socio-digital issues.
