University students' involvement in the pro-and-contra dynamics surrounding the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) policy on X (formerly Twitter) encourages them to selectively consume information that aligns with their preexisting view—a behavior known as Selective Exposure. This has implications for how individuals perceive the policy (Policy Perception). Given Indonesia's political context, where prominent figures play a dominant role in shaping political attitudes, it is possible that Partisanship—or affective attachment to Prabowo as the policy's initiator—also conditions the relationship between Selective Exposure and Policy Perception. This study aims to describe how Selective Exposure on X influences Policy Perception by positioning Partisanship as a moderating variable to determine the strength of this influence. The method used is a quantitative survey employing a questionnaire as the data collection technique, with data analysis conducted using Bootstrapping regression. Based on a survey of 446 UGM students, Selective Exposure was proven to influence how students perceive the MBG policy, accounting for 30.3% of the variance in Policy Perception with a negative direction of influence. However, Partisanship was not proven to moderate this influence; instead, it had a direct positive influence on Policy Perception with greater strength compared to Selective Exposure. These findings suggest that students' perceptions of the MBG policy are more strongly shaped by their affective partisanship toward a political figure than by their selective consumption of information on X. This study also confirms that Selective Exposure and Partisanship continue to operate among university students—a group often assumed to be rational and critical—even though both influences operate independently without moderating one another.
