Identifikasi Hibriditas Tokoh Désiré dalam Novel Le Silence Des Chagos Karya Shenaz Patel

Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi proses hibriditas dalam ruang ketiga akibat pengusiran paksa, sehingga membentuk identitas baru. Dari ketiga tokoh utama, penelitian ini fokus mengidentifikasikan hibriditas pada tokoh Désiré dalam novel Le silence des Chagos karya Shenaz Patel. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami pengaruh ruang ketiga terhadap proses terbentuknya identitas individu yang terjebak di antara dua budaya berbeda. Pengumpulan data dimulai dengan membaca ulang novel dan mengumpulkan teks serta dialog antar tokoh yang kemudian dikategorikan berdasarkan dua fokus utama dan delapan kategori. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif-deskriptif dengan analisis naratif serta menginterpretasikan data menggunakan dua konsep; Identitas Stuart Hall, Hibriditas dan Third Space Bhabha. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pertemuan budaya yang berbeda dan terus dinegosiasikan dalam ruang ketiga mampu menghasilkan proses hibriditas. Dengan demikian, ruang ketiga perlu dipahami sebagai faktor yang memengaruhi identifikasi identitas yang dipertemukan oleh budaya yang berbeda.

This study explores the process of hybridity in the Third Space due to forced displacement, which forms a new identity. Among the three main characters, this study focuses on identifying the hybridity of Désiré in Shenaz Patel's novel Le silence des Chagos. This study aims to understand the influence of the Third Space on the process of forming the identity of individuals who are trapped between two different cultures. Data collection started with re-reading the novel and collecting texts and dialogues between characters, which were then categorised based on two main focuses and eight categories. This study used qualitative-descriptive approach with narrative analysis and interpreted the data using two concepts: Stuart Hall's Identity, Hybridity and Bhabha's Third Space. The results of this study indicate that the encounter of different cultures, which is continuously negotiated in the third space, can produce a process of hybridity. Thus, the third space needs to be understood as a factor that influences the identification of identities shaped by different cultures.
