PERLAWANAN MASYARAKAT BAHRAIN DALAM ANTOLOGI PUISI ZURQAH ASYHAL KARYA ALI ASY-SYARQAWI KRITIK MATERIALISME TERRY EAGLETON

Bahrain setelah memeroleh kemerdekaannya pada tahun 1971 menghadapi berbagai perubahan sosial yang berdampak langsung pada struktur kehidupan masyarakatnya, khususnya kelompok-kelompok yang berada di pinggiran. Dinamika tersebut tidak hanya tercermin dalam realitas sosial, tetapi juga diartikulasikan melalui karya sastra sebagai medium ekspresi dan perlawanan. Karya sastra tersebut hadir melalui penyair Bahrain ?Al? asy-Syarq?w? yang menghadirkan puisinya sebagai bentuk kesaksian dan respons kritis terhadap realitas sosial yang dialami masyarakatnya. Antologi puisi Zurqah Asyhal lahir sebagai artikulasi kesadaran sosial yang berakar pada pengalaman historis dan material rakyat Bahrain. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menggunakan teori kritik materialisme Terry Eaglaton untuk menyingkap keterkaitan antara struktur sosial dan produksi teks yang meliputi general mode of production (GMP), literary mode of production (LMP), general ideology (GI), authorial ideology (AuI), aesthetic ideology (AI), dan text. Adapun Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah adalah deskriptif analitif yaitu pendekatan penelitian yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menelaah suatu fenomena secara mendalam dan sistematis.

Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa antologi puisi Zurqah Asyhal karya Ali asy-Syarqawi merepresentasikan bentuk perlawanan masyarakat Bahrain terhadap ketidakadilan sosial dan dominasi struktur kekuasaan pasca kemerdekaan. Ideologi tersebut diwujudkan melalui bentuk-bentuk agitasi dan kritik yang hadir dalam bahasa simbolik, metaforis, serta narasi penderitaan kolektif masyarakat. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kritik materialisme Terry Eagleton, puisi-puisi dalam antologi ini dipahami sebagai refleksi kesadaran kelas dan respon ideologis terhadap realitas material yang menindas sehingga sastra berfungsi tidak sekadar sebagai ekspresi estetis, tetapi juga sebagai alat artikulasi perlawanan sosial.

After gaining independence in 1971, Bahrain underwent significant social transformations that directly affected the structure of its society, particularly marginalized communities. These dynamics are not only evident in social reality but are also articulated through literary works as a medium of expression and resistance. Such literary articulation emerges through the works of the Bahraini poet ?Al? asy-Syarq?w?, whose poetry serves as both testimony and a critical response to the social conditions experienced by his society. The poetry anthology Zurqah Asyhal arises as an articulation of social consciousness rooted in the historical and material experiences of the Bahraini people. Therefore, this study employs the theory of materialist criticism proposed by Terry Eagleton to reveal the relationship between social structures and textual production, encompassing the general mode of production (GMP), literary mode of production (LMP), general ideology (GI), authorial ideology (AuI), aesthetic ideology (AI), and the text itself. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical method, an approach aimed at systematically describing and critically examining phenomena in depth.

The findings indicate that Zurqah Asyhal represents the ideology of resistance among the Bahraini people against social inequality and the dominance of post-independence power structures. This ideology is manifested through forms of agitation and critique articulated in symbolic and metaphorical language, as well as in narratives of collective suffering. Through the lens of Eagleton’s materialist criticism, the poems in this anthology are understood as reflections of class consciousness and ideological responses to oppressive material realities. Consequently, literature functions not merely as an aesthetic expression but also as a medium for articulating social resistance.
