KONSEP KESETARAAN GENDER DALAM FILM BARBIE (2023) DITINJAU DENGAN PERSPEKTIF FEMINISME MARY WOLLSTONECRAFT

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kompleksitas dari karakter Barbie dan keterikatan dengan adanya pesan feminisme yang disampaikan dalam film Barbie (2023). Penelitian ini berupaya untuk mengkaji konsep kesetaraan gender yang dimunculkan dalam film Barbie (2023), dengan melihat melalui dinamika Barbie dan Ken di dunia Barbie dan dunia manusia menggunakan konsep pemikiran feminisme Mary Wollstonecraft. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis peran laki-laki dan perempuan di masyarakat patriarki berdasarkan representasi tokoh Barbie dan Ken dalam film Barbie (2023) dan menganalisis representasi kesetaraan gender dalam film Barbie (2023) menggunakan pemikiran Mary Wollstonecraft.

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pustaka secara deskriptif membahas mengenai film Barbie (2023) terkait pesan feminisme di dalamnya sebagai objek material dan pemikiran feminisme Mary Wollstonecraft sebagai objek formal. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode hermeneutik dengan unsur-unsur metodis berupa interpretasi, koherensi intern, holistik, dan deskripsi.

Hasil yang dicapai dari penelitian ini, yaitu (1) Barbie dan Ken melalui peran dan dinamika kehidupan yang dijalani dalam dunia mereka, merepresentasikan realitas perempuan dan laki-laki di masyarakat patriarki dalam bentuk reverse situation. Barbie sebagai representasi perempuan, mendapatkan pengalaman serupa dengan laki-laki di dunia nyata sedangkan Ken sebagai representasi laki-laki, mendapatkan pengalaman serupa dengan perempuan di dunia nyata. Pemikiran Mary Wollstonecraft terkait kesetaraan gender di masa lampau masih memiliki relevansi dalam upaya menyelesaikan problem gender yang terjadi saat ini. Hal tersebut direfleksikan dalam film Barbie (2023) melalui penyelesaian problem gender (kesetaraan) akibat pengaruh patriarki seperti yang terjadi di Barbieland. Barbieland mengadopsi dan memiliki relevansi dengan pokok-pokok pemikiran feminisme Mary Wollstonecraft, yaitu pembebasan individu (Barbie dan Ken) dari kekangan prasangka dan juga mencapai kolaborasi harmonis melalui adanya pembentukan tatanan baru yang adil bagi Barbie dan Ken.

This research is motivated by the complexity of the Barbie character and its connection to the feminist message conveyed in the film Barbie (2023). This research seeks to examine the concept of gender equality presented in the film Barbie (2023), by examining the dynamics of Barbie and Ken in Barbie's world and the human world using the feminist thought of Mary Wollstonecraft. The purpose of this research is to analyze the roles of men and women in a patriarchal society based on the representation of Barbie and Ken in the film Barbie (2023) and to analyze the representation of gender equality in the film Barbie (2023) using the thoughts of Mary Wollstonecraft.

This research is a descriptive literature study discussing the film Barbie (2023) in relation to its feminist message as the material object and Mary Wollstonecraft's feminist thought as the formal object. This research uses a hermeneutic method with methodological elements such as interpretation, internal coherence, holistic approach, and description.

The results of this study are: (1) Barbie and Ken, through their roles and life dynamics within their world, represent the reality of women and men in a patriarchal society in a reversed situation. Barbie, as a representation of women, experiences similar to men in the real world, while Ken, as a representation of men, experiences similar to women in the real world. Mary Wollstonecraft's thoughts on gender equality in the past still have relevance in efforts to resolve current gender issues. This is reflected in the film Barbie (2023) through the resolution of gender issues (equality) resulting from the influence of patriarchy, as seen in Barbieland. Barbieland adopts and is relevant to the main points of Mary Wollstonecraft's feminist thinking, namely the liberation of individuals (Barbie and Ken) from the constraints of prejudice and also achieving harmonious collaboration through the establishment of a new, just order for Barbie and Ken.
