DIALEKTIKA PARADIGMATIK SELERA KOPI: MANIFESTASI SENI KESEHARIAN DALAM PRESPEKTIF FILSAFAT SENI JOHN DEWEY

Penelitian ini membahas pergeseran paradigma selera kopi di Indonesia dari akar tradisi bahwa kopi identik dengan hitam pekat dan pahit, menjadi sebuah gaya hidup, serta berkembangnya specialty yang memahami bahwa kopi tidak hanya sekadar rasa pahit. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi sejauh mana pergeseran tersebut dapat dipahami sebagai sebuah bentuk seni dalam keseharian. Kopi tidak hanya dipandang sekadar minuman fungsional, tetapi sebagai praktik budaya yang membentuk cara manusia merasakan dan menghayati pengalaman. 

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif menggunakan metode hermeneutika Gadamer, dalam hal ini fenomena kopi dibaca sebagai proses pemaknaan yang bergerak melalui dialog antara tradisi dan pengalaman baru, mulai dari paradigma awal kopi pahit, inovasi kopi modern, hingga era specialty. Penelitian ini menggunakan pokok pemikiran filsafat seni John Dewey untuk menilai apakah pergeseran tersebut yang pada dasarnya aktivitas keseharian dapat memenuhi kriteria bentuk seni dan pengalaman estetis.

Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa pengalaman estetis baru muncul ketika praktik minum kopi dihayati secara sadar, reflektif, dan menyeluruh, bukan sekadar dijalani sebagai ritual fungsional. Dengan demikian, pergeseran paradigma kopimemperlihatkan transformasi dari aktivitas keseharian menuju kemungkinan pengalaman estetis dalam kehidupan keseharian.

This study discusses the paradigm shift in coffee tastes in Indonesia from the traditional roots of coffee being identical with dark black and bitter, to a lifestyle, and the development of specialty coffee that understands that coffee is not just about bitter taste. This study aims to explore to what extent this shift can be understood as a form of art in daily life. Coffee is not only seen as a functional brew, but as a cultural practice that shapes the way humans perceive and appreciate experiences.

This is a qualitative study using Gadamer's hermeneutic method, in which the phenomenon of coffee is interpreted as a process of meaning-making that moves through a dialogue between tradition and new experiences, starting from the initial paradigm of bitter coffee, modern coffee innovations, to the era of specialty coffee. This study uses John Dewey's philosophy of art to assess whether this shift, essentially an everyday activity, can meet the criteria of art form and aesthetic experience.

The result of the analysis shows that a new aesthetic experience arises when the practice of consuming coffee is consciously, reflectively, and thoroughly experienced, instead of simply being practiced as a functional ritual. Thus, the shift in the coffee paradigm indicates a transformation from a daily activity to the possibility of an aesthetic experience in daily life.
