Analisis Film Unknown: The Lost Pyramid Secara Arkeologis Sebuah Kajian Arkeologi Populer

Perkembangan budaya populer film bernuansa arkeologi sering menampilkan arkeologi tidak sesuai dengan kenyataannya. Namun, berdasarkan pengalaman penulis masih terdapat film yang mengindahkan kaidah arkeologi dan tetap memperhatikan estetika pada film yaitu film Unknown: The Lost Pyramid. Film ini menyoroti penelitian arkeologi yang dilakukan oleh Dr. Zahi Hawass dan Dr. Mostafa Waziry di situs Gisr El-Mudir dan Bubasteum, Saqqara Mesir. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap daya tariknya secara arkeologis dan sebagai sebuah film dengan tema arkeologi yang layak pada budaya populer. Kerangka penelitian arkeologi Wendy Ashmore dan Robert J. Sharer dalam buku “Discovering Our Past” digunakan untuk membandingkannya dengan proses penelitian yang ada pada film untuk ditinjau secara arkeologis. Sedangkan empat tema arkeologi populer Cornelius Holtorf digunakan untuk mengklasifikasikan unsur-unsur dalam film yang termasuk kedalam tema kunci arkeologi populer. Film ini juga akan diidentifikasi menggunakan struktur tiga babak untuk bisa dianalisis setiap adegannya. Dari hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa proses penelitian pada Film Unknown: The Lost Pyramid sesuai dengan apa yang ada pada buku Discovering Our Past, hanya tahapan implementation yang tidak ada pada film. Keempat unsur tema kunci arkeologi populer Cornelius Holtorf juga dijumpai dari adegan-adegan yang ditayangkan sepanjang film. Oleh karena itu, film ini layak secara arkeologis dan sebagai film bertema arkeologi di tengah budaya populer yang layak ditonton.

The development of popular culture, archaeological films often show archaeology that is not in accordance with reality. However, based on the author's experience, there are still films that respect the rules of archaeology and are still able to entertain, namely the film Unknown: The Lost Pyramid. This film highlights archaeological research conducted by Dr. Zahi Hawass and Dr. Mostafa Waziry at the Gisr El-Mudir and Bubasteum sites, Saqqara Egypt. This study aims to reveal its archaeological appeal and as a film with an archaeological theme that is worthy of popular culture. The archaeological research framework of Wendy Ashmore and Robert J. Sharer in the book "Discovering Our Past" is used to compare it with the research process in the film to be reviewed archaeologically. While the four popular archaeological themes of Cornelius Holtorf are used to classify elements in the film that are included in the key themes of popular archaeology. This film will also be identified using a three-act structure so that each scene can be analyzed. From the results of the study, it was found that the research process in the film Unknown: The Lost Pyramid is in accordance with what is in the book Discovering Our Past, only the implementation stage is not in the film. The four elements of Cornelius Holtorf's key themes of popular archaeology are also found in scenes shown throughout the film. Therefore, this film is worthy archaeologically and as an archaeological-themed film in the midst of popular culture that is worth watching.
