Road development must receive full support from the Government of Indonesia with the aim of ensuring safety, comfort and economic efficiency for the community. The research aims to design the thickness of the existing flexible pavement using the Bina Marga 2017 method compared to the AASHTO 1993 and Asphalt Institute 1981 methods and conduct a study of the design results based on consideration of the concept of the resulting parameters.
This research was conducted on Primary Collector Road 1 Betungan-Padang Serai section of Bengkulu City along 5.41 km. The results of direct observations on the existing conditions of the Betungan - Padang Serai section became primary data, data obtained from Balai Pelaksana Jalan Nasional Bengkulu and Satuan Kerja Perencanaan dan Pengawasan Jalan Nasional Provinsi Bengkulu office as secondary data. Analysis of the thickness of flexible pavement is carried out using data on the condition of the Betungan - Padang Serai road section in 2022.
In calculating the thickness of the pavement using the 2017 Bina Marga Method, the results obtained are AC-WC 4 cm thick, AC-BC 6 cm thick, AC-Base 16 cm thick, and foundation layer of class A aggregate 30 cm thick. The 1993 AASHTO method produces a surface layer thickness of 15 cm thick Laston-MS, 15 cm thick class A aggregate crushed stone top foundation layer, and 15 cm thick class A sirtu sub foundation layer. Meanwhile, the Asphalt Institute 1981 method gives the thickness of the surface course with 4 cm thick AC-WC and 6 cm thick AC-BC, base course with 15 cm thick class A aggregate foundation layer, and sub-base course with 19 cm thick class B aggregate foundation layer.
