PENERAPAN PRINSIP CONTEMPORARY COLLECTING DALAM PENGELOLAAN KOLEKSI DI MUSEUM MONUMEN PERS NASIONAL SURAKARTA

Museum berperan penting dalam menyediakan pengalaman edukatif dan reflektif melalui pameran koleksi bersejarah. Monumen Pers Nasional di Surakarta merupakan salah satu museum yang fokus pada sejarah pers Indonesia. Namun, observasi menunjukkan bahwa koleksi yang dipamerkan pada Ruang Pamer Sejarah Pers berhenti pada era 1998, sehingga kurang merepresentasikan perkembangan jurnalisme kontemporer. Penelitian ini bertujuan memberikan rekomendasi koleksi baru berdasarkan prinsip yang digunakan pada tren baru dalam museology yaitu contemporary collecting untuk meningkatkan relevansi dan daya tarik museum.

Penelitian ini menggunakan metode observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi untuk mengumpulkan data mengenai kondisi koleksi dan pengelolaannya. Analisis dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi ketidaksesuaian dan kekurangan dalam pameran eksisting, kemudian mengembangkan tema dan memberikan saran koleksi baru. Wawancara dilakukan dengan narasumber dari Monumen Pers Nasional Surakarta dan Museum Sonobudoyo untuk mendapatkan perspektif komparatif.

Hasil penelitian meunjukkan bahwa koleksi Ruang Pamer Sejarah Pers belum menggambarkan perkembangan terbaru dalam dunia pers dan beberapa koleksi kurang memiliki konteks yang jelas. Dengan menerapkan prinsip contemporary collecting, seperti penambahan koleksi alat podcasting, smarthphone, laptop, dan invertaris digital, Monumen Pers Nasional dapat mengembangkan koleksi yang lebih dinamis dan interaktif. 

Museums play an important role in providing educational and reflective experiences through the exhibition of historical collections. The National Press Monument in Surakarta is one of the museums that focuses on the history of the Indonesian press. However, observations show that the collections on display in the Press History Exhibition Room stopped in the 1998 era, thus not representing the development of contemporary journalism. This research aims to provide recommendations for new collections based on the principles used in New Trends in Museology, namely contemporary collecting to increase the relevance and attractiveness of the museum.

This research uses observation, interview, and documentation methods to collect data on the condition of the collection and its management. The analysis was carried out to evaluate the discrepancies and shortcomings in the existing exhibition, then develop themes and suggest new collections. Interviews were conducted with resource persons from the Surakarta National Press Monument and Sonobudoyo Museum to gain a comparative perspective.

The results show that the collection of the Press History Exhibition Room does not yet illustrate the latest developments in the press world and some collections lack a clear context. By applying the principles of contemporary collecting, such as adding collections of podcasting tools, smartphones, laptops, and digital invertories, the National Press Monument can develop a more dynamic and interactive collection.
