Realisme Magis dalam Novel Ladivine Karya Marie NDiaye

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana realisme magis direpresentasikan dalam novel Ladivine karya Marie NDiaye. Obyek material yang digunakan adalah novel Ladivine karya Marie NDiaye yang diterbitkan pada tahun 2013. Novel ini mengisahkan hubungan ibu dan anak yang masing-masing dari mereka tidak memperlakukan satu sama lain layaknya keluarga. Marie NDiaye memanifestasikan hubungan ibu dan anak yang tidak harmonis tersebut dalam bentuk realisme magis. Tokoh utama menjumpai kejadian-kejadian di luar nalar dan logika sehingga batasan antara realitas dan imajinasi menjadi buram. Teori milik Wendy B. Faris mengenai lima karakteristik realisme magis digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi unsur-unsur realisme magis dalam novel. Teori animal symbolicum milik Ernst Cassirer digunakan untuk meneliti bagaimana tema animalité menggambarkan hubungan ibu dan anak. 

Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa karakteristik realisme magis banyak dijumpai pada paruh kedua novel Ladivine. Selanjutnya, ditemukan bahwa tema animalité terwujud melalui simbolisasi figur anjing yang digunakan untuk merepresentasikan trauma antar generasi. Setiap tokoh membawa trauma yang disebabkan oleh ketidakmampuan ibu untuk hadir secara emosional di hidup anak-anaknya.

This research aims to examine how magical realism is represented in the novel Ladivine by Marie NDiaye. The material object used is the novel Ladivine by Marie NDiaye published in 2013. The novel tells the story of an intergenerational mother-daughter relationship where each of them does not treat the other like family. Marie NDiaye manifests the disharmonious mother-daughter relationship in the form of magical realism. The protagonist encounters events beyond reason and logic, blurring the boundaries between reality and imagination. Wendy B. Faris's five characteristics of magical realism is used to identify the elements of magical realism in the novel. Ernst Cassirer's animal symbolicum theory is used to examine how the theme of animalité describes the relationship between mother and daughter. 

The method used in this research is analysis with a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of the study that the characteristics of magical realism are mostly found in the second half of the novel. Of the five characteristics of magical realism propsed by Wendy B. Faris, three were found, including: irreducible elements, phenomenal world, and unsettling doubts. Furthermore, the research found that the theme of animalité is portrayed through the symbolization of a dog figure which is used to represent intergenerational trauma. Each character carries the trauma caused by the mother's inability to be emotionally present in her children's lives.
