Pandangan Dunia Yi Munyol dalam Novel Our Twisted Hero

Novel Our Twisted Hero karya Yi Munyol bercerita tentang tokoh hero problematik bernama Han Byeongtae yang melakukan pencarian terhadap nilai-nilai otentik dalam menghadapi dunia yang terdegradasi di sekolah barunya. Dunia yang terdegradasi adalah ketidakseimbangan antara tokoh hero dengan tokoh-tokoh dan objek di sekitarnya yang berhubungan dengannya. Ketidakseimbangan itu menyebabkan tokoh tersebut menjadi problematik. Oleh karena itu, tokoh hero mencari nilai-nilai otentik sebagai penyeimbang hubungan antara dirinya dengan dunia yang berkonflik tersebut. Dalam pencariannya, ia berupaya mencari keseimbangan melalui asimilasi dan akomodasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan pandangan dunia pengarang. Pandangan dunia ditelaah menggunakan teori strukturalisme genetik Lucien Goldmann yang melihat sebuah karya sastra dari struktur yang membangunnya. Struktur tersebut berupa homologi antara struktur novel dengan struktur sosial di masyarakat. Struktur novel menurut Goldmann berpusat pada relasi antartokoh dan antara tokoh dengan lingkungannya. Kelompok sosial pengarang juga menjadi bahan pertimbangan yang melatarbelakangi terbentuknya pandangan dunianya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pandangan dunia pengarang terhadap perjuangan demokrasi di Korea dan sikap masyarakat yang terlibat pada tahun 1980-an. Melalui pertentangan antara tokoh hero problematik Han Byeongtae dengan Eom Seokdae, teman sekelas, dan wali kelasnya, penelitian ini mengungkap adanya pandangan pengarang yang beranggapan bahwa kurangnya kepedulian sebagian masyarakat terhadap perjuangan demokrasi justru membantu pemerintahan otoriter memperkuat kekuasaannya. Namun, tujuan utama pengarang bukanlah untuk menilai benar salahnya sikap masyarakat melainkan untuk mengungkapkan realita yang sebenarnya terjadi melalui sudut pandang Yi Munyol sebagai pengarang novel Our Twisted Hero.

Yi Munyol's novel Our Twisted Hero tells the story of a problematic hero named Han Byeongtae who searches for authentic values in facing a degraded world at his new school. A degraded world is an imbalance between the hero character and the surrounding figures and objects related to him. This imbalance causes the character to become problematic. That is why the hero character seeks authentic values as a counterweight to the relationship between himself and the world in conflict. In his quest, he makes efforts to achieve balance through assimilation and accommodation. This study aims to find the author's worldview. Worldviews are examined using Lucien Goldmann's genetic structuralism theory which views a literary work from the structure that builds it. The structure is in the form of homology between the structure of the novel and the social structure in society. According to Goldmann, the structure of the novel is centered on the relationship between characters and between characters and objects. The author's social group is also a material consideration behind the formation of his worldview. The result of this research shows the author's world view toward struggle for democracy in Korea in the 1980s and the attitude of the people involved. Through the conflict between the problematic hero Han Byeongtae and Eom Seokdae, his classmate, and homeroom teacher, this research reveals the view of the author who thinks that the lack of concern for some people towards the struggle for democracy actually helps authoritarian governments strengthen their power. However, the author's main goal is not to judge the right or wrong of society's attitudes but to reveal the hard reality that actually happened back then through Yi Munyol's point of view as the author of Our Twisted Hero.
