Representasi Subaltern dalam Novel Cantik Itu Luka Karya Eka Kurniawan

Novel Cantik Itu Luka adalah novel debut Eka Kurniawan yang menuai banyak respons baik secara nasional maupun internasional. Ada kurang lebih sepuluh penelitian yang menjadikan novel CIL sebagai objek kajian. Umumnya, penelitian-penelitian tersebut fokus pada penindasan para tokoh perempuan dan perlawanan yang mereka lakukan. Para peneliti cenderung memperlihatkan keberpihakan kepada pihak-pihak tertindas. Namun, ada yang luput dari perhatian para peneliti sebelumnya. Para tokoh perempuan di dalam novel adalah representasi Eka Kurniawan sebagai pengarang yang hidup di masa poskolonial yang penuh dominasi laki-laki. Karena itu, memungkinkan terjadinya bias. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan posisi perempuan di dalam novel secara struktural. Kemudian, menjelaskan dekonstruksi novel itu sendiri terhadap struktur dominan di dalam novel CIL. Tujuan tersebut dapat terwujud dengan menggunakan teori subaltern Spivak. Analisisnya dilakukan dengan mengelompokkan oposisi-oposisi biner yang ada di dalam novel sehingga akan muncul hubungan hierarkis, tinggi dan rendah, dominan dan marjinal. Lalu, melakukan dekonstruksi atas novel sehingga terlihat bahwa kelompok marjinal bisa melakukan perlawanan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa oposisi-oposisi biner yang ada di dalam novel CIL tidak hanya memunculkan pertentangan, tetapi juga sekaligus membentuk hierarkis, sehingga muncullah oposisi utama di dalam novel, yaitu oposisi antara laki-laki dan perempuan. Oposisi-oposisi tersebut mewujud dalam oposisi yang lebih konkret. Pada akhirnya, posisi perempuan menjadi terpinggirkan dan subaltern. Namun, mereka ternyata melakukan perlawanan dengan berbagai cara. Penjungkirbalikan struktur dominan kembali dipertanyakan hingga akhirnya menghasilkan data yang bertentangan dengan pembalikan hierarki pengarang.

The novel Cantik Itu Luka is Eka Kurniawan's debut novel which has received many responses both nationally and internationally. There are approximately ten studies that make CIL novel the object of study. In general, these studies focus on the oppression of female characters and the resistance they put up. Researchers tend to show partiality to the oppressed. However, there is something that has escaped the attention of previous researchers. The female characters in the novel represent Eka Kurniawan as an author who lived in a postcolonial era full of male domination. Therefore, it allows for bias. This study aims to explain the position of women in the novel structurally. Then, explaining the deconstruction of the novel itself against the dominant structure in the CIL novel. The aims can be realized by using Spivak's subaltern theory. The analysis is carried out by grouping the binary oppositions in the novel so that hierarchical, high and low, dominant and marginal relationships will emerge. Then, deconstructing the novel so that it can be seen that marginalized groups can put up a fight. The results of this study indicate that the binary oppositions in the novel CIL not only include contradictions but also form hierarchies so that the main opposition appears in the novel, the opposition between men and women. These oppositions manifest in a more concrete opposition. In the end, the position of women becomes marginalized and subaltern. However, they turned out to put up a fight in various ways. The overturning of the dominant structure is questioned until it finally produces data that contradicts the reversal of the author's hierarchy.
