Karakteristik Ragam Hias Relief di Candi Ngempon Kabupaten Semarang, Jawa Tengah

Candi Ngempon merupakan salah satu candi bercorak agama Hindu yang dihiasi oleh berbagai variasi ragam hias. Penelitian ini akan membahas mengenai karakteristik ragam hias yang ada di Candi Ngempon berdasarkan pada variasi relief, motif hias, bentuk relief, dan penempatannya. Analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari analisis formal (formal analysis) dan analisis penggayaan (stylistic analysis). Analisis formal digunakan dalam proses deskripsi dan identifikasi ragam hias relief di Candi Ngempon. Hasil dari analisis tersebut akan diamati kembali dalam analisis penggayaan untuk melihat keunikan yang ada. Relief yang diduga memiliki keunikan akan dibandingkan dengan ragam hias pada candi-candi lainnya untuk melihat persamaan maupun perbedaannya. Hasil perbandingan tersebut mengindikasikan adanya 3 tipe ragam hias di Candi Ngempon yaitu relief dengan penggambaran yang umum ditemukan pada candi lainnya, namun memiliki detail-detail yang bervariasi; adanya relief dengan keunikan tertentu yang memiliki persamaan dengan candi lainnya, namun dengan perbedaan tertentu; atau relief yang sepenuhnya berbeda dan belum ditemukan pada candi lainnya. Seluruh indikasi tersebut menunjukan adanya keunikan ragam hias pada Candi Ngempon berupa ragam hias yang sangat raya dengan penggambaran relief yang bervariasi. Pendapat mengenai keunikan tersebut mengacu pada dugaan umum bahwa candi dengan corak agama yang sama dan dalam masa pembangunan yang diduga sama lebih cenderung dihiasi oleh ragam hias yang sederhana.

Candi Ngempon is one of the Hindu-style temples that has a large variety of decorations. This study will discuss the characteristics of the decorative styles in Candi Ngempon based on the variation of reliefs, decorative motifs, relief forms, and their placement. The analysis used in this research consists of formal analysis and stylistic analysis. Formal analysis is used in the description and identification process of relief decoration at Candi Ngempon. The results of the analysis will be observed again in the enrichment analysis to see the uniqueness. The reliefs which are believed to be unique are then compared with the decorations in other temples to see the similarities and differences. The results of the comparison indicate that there are 3 types of decoration at Candi Ngempon, i.e reliefs with depictions commonly found in other temples, but with varying details; as well as reliefs with certain uniqueness that have similarities with other temples, but with certain differences; or reliefs that are completely different and have not been found in other temples. All these indications indicate the unique decoration of Candi Ngempon in the form of diverse decorations with various relief depictions. The opinion regarding the uniqueness refers to the general assumption that temples with the same religious style and at the same construction period tend to be decorated with simple decorations.
