Generasi Muda Memandang Papua : Analisis Resepsi Mahasiswa Terhadap Konflik Adat Dalam Film Dokumenter The Mahuzes

Dewasa ini konflik adat menjadi suatu isu yang sensitif di Indonesia khususnya Papua. Bagi orang awam, konflik adat biasanya terjadi antar anggota suku atau kelompok masyarakat lain. Namun, terjadinya konflik adat beragam yakni perempuan, pencurian, juga intervensi pemerintah dalam keputusan pembangunan proyek di lahan masyarakat termasuk tanah adat. The Mahuzes merupakan salah satu film dokumenter yang menggambarkan konflik adat di Papua. Berlatar belakang konflik adat marga Mahuze atas penggunaan tanah adat mereka untuk pembangunan proyek MIFEE (Merauke Integrated Food Energy and Estate). Melalui proyek tersebut, pemerintah bekerja sama dengan investor untuk menjadikan Papua sebagai lumbung pangan nasional. Ironinya orang Papua yang menjadikan sagu sebagai makanan pokok harus menyediakan beras atas nama kepentingan nasional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pemaknaan penonton terhadap konflik adat dalam film dokumenter The Mahuzes. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori analisis resepsi dari Stuart Hall. Stuart Hall menganalisis 3 posisi penonton, yakni dominant-hegemonic reading, negotiated reading dan oppositional reading. Hasil penelitan menunjukkan bahwa dua orang informan berada pada posisi dominant-hegemonic reading, artinya informan menerima apa yang disampaikan dalam film tersebut. Hasil penelitian ini juga mendapatkan tiga orang informan berada pada posisi negotiated, artinya pesan di resepsi tidak selalu sama namun ada pertimbangan lainnya. Selain itu, pengetahuan, pendidikan, pengalaman, dan konsumsi media memberikan pengaruh besar dalam pembentukan pikiran yang kemudian mendasari cara informan dalam menangkap pesan film tersebut.

Nowdays customary conflict became a sensitive issue in Indonesia especially in Papua. For the layman, it usually occurred between the members of the tribe or others community groups. Women and theft related issues are the common cause of conflict within the tribe. Beside of that the government intervention in project development decisions on community land including customary land. The Mahuzes is one documentary that illustrates the customary conflict in Papua. Background to the conflict over the use of the Mahuze clan of customary lands for their custom development project MIFEE (Merauke Integrated Food and Energy Estate). Through the project, the Government is working with investors intent to make Papua as national food barn. Ironic that Papuans who made sago as the staple food rice have to provide on behalf of national interests. The purpose of this research is to find out the definition of the audience against the customary conflict in the The Mahuzes�s documentary. This study used a theory analysis of reception from Stuart Hall. There were 3 position of the audience such as the dominant hegemonic-reading, negotiated reading and oppositional reading. The results of this study showed that the two informants were in the position of dominant hegemonic-reading, this means that the informant received what is conveyed in the film. The results of this study also get three informants negotiated positions, meaning that the message at the reception is not always the same but there are other considerations. In addition, knowledge, education, experience, and media consumption gives a major influence the establishment of the mind then underlie the way of the informants in capturing the film's message.
