Aspek-aspek Musik Jaz Dalam Novel L'Ecume des jours Karya Boris Vian

Jaz adalah musik yang ditemukan oleh orang Afro-Amerika di New Orleans. Musik ini dibawa dari Amerika ke Eropa melalui kelompok musik militer. Meskipun telah dibawa sejak tahun 1910an, musik jaz baru populer pada tahun 1930 ketika komunitas-komunitas penggemar musik itu bermunculan ke publik. Penelitian ini membahas mengenai aspek-aspek musik jaz yang muncul dalam L'Ecume des jours, novel yang ditulis Boris Vian pada tahun 1947. Aspek-aspek musik jaz ini adalah hal-hal yang menunjukkan ciri dari musik jaz yang kebanyakan berkaitan dengan teknis permainan musik. Untuk menganalisis hal tersebut, peneliti menggunakan pendekatan strukturalisme oleh Levi-Strauss. Pendekatan ini menekankan pada metode analisis struktur dalam dan luar. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa aspek-aspek musik jaz yang ada di dalam novel L'Ecume des jours adalah ritme swing, syncopation, blue notes dan modus, improvisasi, dan suara-suara khas dari masing-masing pemain musik jaz.

Jazz is a music genre that originated in African American communities of New Orleans. It was brought from United States to Europe by military bands. Although it has been brought since 1910s, jazz only gained its popularity in 1930 when the jazz fan communities sprang up to the public. This research discusses about the aspects of jazz that appear in L'Ecume des jours, a novel which was written by Boris Vian in 1947. These aspects of jazz music are the things that show the characteristics of jazz music that mostly deals with the musical technique. To analyze this, the researcher uses a structuralism approach which was suggested by Levi-Strauss. This approach emphasizes the method of analysis of inner and outer structures.The result of this research indicate that the aspects of jazz that appeared in L'Ecume des jours are swing rhythm, syncopation, blue notes and modes, improvisation, and distinctive voices from each jazz players.
