RESISTENSI-NEGOSIASI IDENTITAS ISLAM DAN NON-ISLAM DALAM NOVEL SOUMISSION KARYA MICHEL HOUELLEBECQ

Perubahan rezim kekuasaan di Prancis yang menempatkan kelompok Islam di posisi dominan telah mengubah struktur negara Prancis. Dinamika transformasi hubungan sosial dalam masyarakat Prancis menyebabkan bergesernya posisi kelompok-kelompok sosial seperti Islam, Ateis, Yahudi, dan Katolik dalam pola hubungan kemasyarakatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan bentuk eksklusivitas, resistensi, dan negosiasi dalam konstruksi identitas yang dilakukan subjek-subjek dalam novel Soumission karya Michel Houellebecq. Selain itu, penelitian ini menjelaskan posisi pengarang sebagai seorang Prancis dalam menyoroti Islam di dalam struktur relasi sosial. Kajian dilakukan dengan menggunakan teori identitas Richard Jenkins. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa eksklusivitas kelompok Islam tergambarkan melalui sistem pendidikan, sistem politik, dan posisi perempuan di dalam relasi sosial. Eksklusivitas kelompok non-Islam tercermin dalam rasionalitas kelompok ateis, nasionalisme dan kebebasan berpikir kelompok Yahudi, dan praktik-praktik agama Katolik dalam kehidupan masyarakat Prancis. Bentuk-bentuk resistensi sebagai strategi dalam konstruksi identitas dilakukan melalui praktik demonstrasi, mobilisasi, eksploitasi tubuh, dan penolakan pemakaian simbol-simbol agama. Bentuk negosiasi dilakukan dengan cara menerima sekaligus menolak hukum-hukum Islam yang diterapkan. Kelompok Islam digambarkan pengarang sebagai kelompok eksklusif yang sangat dominan sehingga memunculkan ketakutan akan hadirnya kembali pola-pola pemerintahan absolut abad pertengahan. Praktik-praktik pelanggaran hukum Islam yang dilakukan oleh subjek-subjek dalam Soumission merupakan bentuk kritik terhadap kelompok Islam.

The regime change in France which puts Islamic group in a dominant position has changed the structure of the French Republic. The dynamics of transformation of social relations cause the shifts of the position of social groups such as Islam, Atheists, Jews, and Catholics in social relations patterns. This research aims at revealing the form of exclusivity, resistance and negotiations in the construction of identity performed by the subjects in Soumission by Michel Houellebecq. Besides, this study describes the author's position as a French on views toward Islam in the structure of social relations. The theory of identity by Richard Jenkins is used in this research. The results of this research are the exclusivities of Islamic group are portrayed through the education and political system and the position of women in social relations. The exclusivities of non-Islamic groups are reflected in the rationality of the atheist community, the nationalism and the freedom of thought of Jewish community, and the Catholic practices in France. The forms of resistance as a strategy in the construction of identitiy are made through demonstration, mobilization, exploitation of the body, and rejection of the use of religious symbols. The forms of negotiation are done by accepting and rejecting Islamic laws applied by the Islamic group. The Islamic group is described as an exclusive group which raises fears of the return of absolute government in the Middle Ages. The practice in the form of violations of the Islamic rules is to criticism of the Islamic group.
