KESANTUNAN BERBAHASA ARSENE WENGER DALAM KONFERENSI PERS

Penelitian ini membahas kesopanan berbahasa Arsene Wenger di dalam konferensi persnya. Diasumsikan bahwa sebagai pelatih yang sudah sangat berpengalaman dan posisinya sebagai figur utama di dalam klub, Arsene Wenger memperhatikan maksim kesopanan di dalam konferensi persnya. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menjawab permasalahan tentang (1) bentuk pematuhan terhadap maksim kesopanan, (2) bentuk pelanggaran terhadap maksim kesopanan, dan (3) fungsi-fungsi tuturan Arsene Wenger dalam konferensi pers. Penelitian ini menggunakan data yang berupa video konferensi pers Arsene Wenger beserta transkripnya yang diperoleh dari situs website resmi klub asal Inggris Arsenal FC. Adapun data ekstralingual berupa informasi historis dari pertandingan yang terkait dengan konferensi pers tersebut. Teori yang digunakan sebagai acuan adalah teori kesopanan berbahasa dari Leech. Dari hasil analisis, diperoleh beberapa kesimpulan: Pertama, Arsene Wenger lebih banyak melakukan pematuhan terhadap maksim prinsip kesopanan, dengan maksim kebijaksanaan dan kemurahan sebagai maksim yang paling sering dipatuhi. Kedua, sebagai pelatih, Arsene Wenger sangat menjaga kepercayaan diri para pemainnya dengan banyak melakukan pujian dan pembelaan. Ketiga, Sebagai figur utama di Arsenal FC, Arsene Wenger sangat berhati-hati dalam menyampaikan pendapat atau argumennya. Arsene Wenger merupakan sosok yang diplomatis dan sangat menjaga citra baik klubnya.

This research discusses the speaking manner of Arsene Wenger at the press conferences. It is assumed that as an experienced coach, and a major figure in the Arsenal Football club, Arsene Wenger observes the maxim of politeness in his press conference. Therefore, this study aims to answer the problems related to (1) the form of utterances that follow to the maxim of politeness, (2) the form of utterances that flout the maxims of politeness, and (3) the functions of Arsene Wenger's utterances at the press conference. This research uses Arsene Wenger's press conference videos along with the transcripts obtained from the official website of English club Arsenal FC. The extra-lingual data is all facts and informations about the game that related to the press conference. The theory used as a reference is the theory of politeness principles from Leech. Based on the result, the research draws following conclusions. First, Arsene Wenger tends to follow the maxims of politeness principles, with tact and generosity maxims as the most observed maxim. Second, as a coach, Arsene Wenger tries to boost the confidence of his players with a lot of praise and defense. Third, as a major figure in Arsenal FC, Arsene Wenger is very cautious in giving his opinions or arguments. Arsene Wenger is a diplomatic figure. He always tries to keep the image of the club.
