Memilih Identitas dalam Novel Le Destin de Iouri Voronine Karya Henriette Jelinek

Identitas adalah sebuah proses yang dialami oleh setiap individu. Identitas juga mempunyai hak dan kendali untuk memilih identitasnya sendiri. Namun terkadang ada perbedaan antara keinginan individu dengan lingkungan sosial. Novel karya Henriette Jelinek yang berjudul Le Destin De Iouri Voronine (2005) mengangkat tema mengenai pemilihan identitas. Tokoh dalam novel tersebut, Iouri Voronine, mempunyai permasalahan tentang identitas, dia diposisikan untuk memilih identitas dengan paksaan dan tekanan dari lingkungan sosial. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguak tentang identitas dan pertentangan-pertentangan yang muncul dari pemilihan identitas tersebut. Teori yang digunakan adalah Konstruksi Identitas sebagai Process Of Making dan The Process Of Becoming dari Wening Udasmoro (2014) bahwa identitas bisa dipilih dan bisa membentuk dengan sendirinya. Identitas sebagai proyek refleksif dari Anthony Giddens (1991) bahwa identitas selalu melihat kepada pengalaman di masa lalu untuk memutuskan identitas yang digunakan di masa sekarang. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa identitas mempunyai sifat dinamis yang terus bergerak dan berubah-ubah bergantung pada peristiwa atau kejadian yang dialami oleh setiap individu. Lalu identitas bukan lagi sebagai label yang tetap, melainkan sebagai pilihan. Pertentangan yang muncul dari pemilihan tersebut berupa pertentangan antara individu dengan lingkungan sosial dan pertentangan antara individu dengan masa lalu dan masa sekarang.

Identity is a process and every single person has a right to determine their own identity. But sometimes there is a difference desire between an individual desire and the social environment. A novel written by Henriette Jelinek entitled Le Destin De Iouri Voronine (2005) with the theme of a process of self identity assessment. The main character, Iouri Voronine, has a problem with his identity. He is forced to choose an identity while he is under pressure of social environment. The goal of this research is to inform the readers about illustration of identity and to solve conflicts in the process of forming an identity. The theory which is applied in this case is Konstruksi Identitas sebagai Process Of Making dan The Process Of Becoming from Wening Udasmoro (2014) that identity can be choose and it can be formed by itself. Also the theory of identity as the project of reflection from Anthony Giddens (1991) that an individual always look his experience in the past for decide to use identity in the present. The result of this research shows that the identity has a dynamic character that always move and change depend on the situation or event experienced by every single person. Then identity is not an absolute label but a choice. The contradiction that occurs from that process of self identity assessment is in form of a conflict in between a single individual to the social environment, in past and present.
