This study analyzes the influence of TikTok-based user-generated content and sales promotion content on the purchase intention of preloved luxury goods among Generation Z, with sustainability perception and trust as mediating variables. Based on the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) framework, both content types serve as the stimulus, while sustainability perception and trust act as organism elements linking the stimulus to purchase intention as the response. The research model comprises five interrelated constructs explaining how purchase intention is formed.
This study employs a quantitative design involving Generation Z respondents in Indonesia born between 1997 and 2007 who actively use TikTok and have seen preloved luxury goods content on the platform. A total of 190 respondents were selected as the sample through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using the Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method with SmartPLS 4.
The results show that user-generated content and sales promotion content have a positive and significant effect on both sustainability perception and trust among Generation Z. Sustainability perception and trust also have a positive and significant effect on purchase intention. However, only sales promotion content has a significant direct effect on purchase intention, while user-generated content does not have a significant direct effect. Mediation testing shows that trust fully mediates the relationship between user-generated content and purchase intention, and partially mediates the relationship between sales promotion content and purchase intention, while sustainability perception does not mediate either relationship.
