Nalar Strategis Steven Knight : Signifikansi Politik Serial Film Peaky Blinders

Dalam meneliti Steven Knight sebagai penulis naskah yang membidani serial Peaky Blinders, penulis berangkat dari asumsi bahwa drama kejahatan yang ia sajikan bukan sekadar tontonan yang eksotik, melainkan menyajikan pelajaran politik, membuka cara pandang tentang realita dan praktik politik. Peaky Blinders dalam penelitian ini diperlakukan sebagai medium tempat gagasan politik Knight dipersonifikasikan melalui tokoh dan penokohan yang ia ciptakan. Isinya adalah teks politik yang dibungkus dalam seni audiovisual, mengungkap the political lewat sosok kreatornya. Dari kegemaran penulis menyaksikan film ini penulis memahami fitur ilmu politik sebagai science of the political.

Serial ini menghadirkan narasi kejahatan yang konsisten dan terpolarisasi. Narasi yang berusaha dibangun oleh Knight menumbuhkan premis bahwa mereka memiliki korelasi dengan tatanan sosio-politik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membedah apa grammar politik yang dibangun oleh Steven Knight dengan membungkusnya melalui narasi kejahatan. Berbekal pemahaman akan pendekatan Narratology dari Gerald Prince, Strategy as Practice, dan teori Hegemony dari Jarzabkowski dan Antonio Gramsci penulis berhasil menguak makna dibalik narasi kejahatan yang dibangun oleh Knight. Beliau memahamkan penulis tentang nalar strategis, yang betapa politis [political] narasi kejahatan yang disuguhkannya. Nalar strategis tersirat dari cara Knight melalui mengolah-saji peristiwa kejahatan sebagai: (1) Informasi sebagai mata uang, (2) Ancaman adalah kesempatan negosiasi, (3) aliansi yang dibangun atas kalkulasi rasional, dan (4) Jaringan sebagai alat mobilitas, sedemikian sehingga, narasi ini menjadi wadah artikulasi praktik reproduksi elit, Bahwa hal itu dimanifestasikan melalui kontrol informasi, aliansi, jaringan.

In researching Steven Knight as a scriptwriter who authored the Peaky Blinders series, the author proceeds from the assumption that the crime drama he presents is not merely an exotic spectacle, but rather offers political lessons, opening up perspectives on political reality and practice. Within this study, Peaky Blinders is treated as a medium through which Knight's political ideas are personified through the characters and characterizations he creates. Its content constitutes a political text enveloped in audiovisual art, revealing the political through the figure of its creator. The author's enthusiasm for viewing this series informs an understanding of the features of political science as the science of the political.

This series presents a crime narrative that is consistent and polarized. The narrative that Knight tries to build grows the premise that they have a correlation with the socio-political order. This research aims to dissect what political grammar was built by Steven Knight by wrapping it through crime narrative. Equipped with an understanding of the Narratology approach from Gerald Prince, Strategy as Practice, and Hegemony theory from Jarzabkowski and Antonio Gramsci the author succeeded in uncovering the meaning behind the crime narrative built by Knight. He made the author understand about strategic reasoning, how political the crime narrative he presents is. This strategic reasoning is implied from the way Knight processes-serves crime events as: (1) Information as currency, (2) Threat is a negotiation opportunity, (3) alliances built on rational calculation, and (4) Network as a tool of mobility, in such a way that, this narrative becomes a vessel of articulation of elite reproduction practice, that it is manifested through control of information, alliance, network.
