This research examines the pragmatic structure of team radio communication at the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 Team in the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix using Speech Act theory as defined by Searle (1979). It contains three objectives; to identify and categorise the speech acts present in the corpus, to analyse the illocutionary force and directness of expression of Directive acts, and to compare the pragmatic structures of two drivers who have significant different levels of experience in the team, George Russell and Kimi Antonelli. Qualitative description was used to describe and analyse the corpus of 296 transcribed utterances taken from public broadcasts of the race and classified according to the classification of Speech Acts as defined by Searle (1979). The results show the presence of four out of the five Speech Acts; Assertive (201, 61.1%), Directive (89, 27.1%), Expressive (32, 9.7%), Commissive (7, 2.1%), and the absence of Declaration, since there was no institutional authority among the drivers and engineers. Among the Directive acts, 55.1% of the occurrences belong to Direct Directives and 44.9% to indirect Directives including four sub-categories. It was found that the communication style of Russell included relatively more Expressive and Commissive acts, Indirect Directives, and driver-initiated utterances whereas the sub-corpus of Antonelli was characterised by the dominance of Assertive acts and Direct Directives. These differences are considered to be determined by the degree of maturity of the driver-engineer relationship and not by personal styles of speaker.
