This study examines the manuscript Ma'rifatu an-Nik?? as part of the intellectual heritage of Indonesian Islam, highlighting its transformation of the concept of Islamic marriage (munakahat) from an exoteric legal framework into an esoteric Sufi interpretation. The objectives of this research are (1) to describe the codicological and textological characteristics of the Ma'rifatu an-Nik?? manuscript, (2) to produce a critical edition and an Indonesian translation based on the KHASTARA manuscript (NB 928) with the BLAS/SUM/16/FI/9 manuscript serving as a comparative text, and (3) to analyze the transformation of the concept of marriage through the triadic semiotic model of Charles Sanders Peirce, consisting of representamen, object, and interpretant. This research employs a qualitative method combining philological and semiotic approaches. The philological stage includes manuscript inventory, codicological description, textual criticism, critical editing using the standard method, transliteration, and translation. Subsequently, Peirce's triadic semiotic theory is applied to examine the relationship between signs, objects, and interpretants in order to uncover the process of semiosis that constructs the manuscript's esoteric meanings.
The findings reveal that Ma'rifatu an-Nik?? is a Sufi-oriented religious text that employs the terminology of Islamic marriage law as a symbolic medium for explaining the spiritual journey toward ma'rifah (gnosis). The process of semiosis is articulated through four principal metaphors: the marriage of the soul and the body, the marriage of the Qur'an and its meaning, the spiritual marriage of man and woman, and the mystical union between the servant and God. Within these metaphors, the legal symbols of marriage undergo semantic transformation, functioning not merely as juridical prescriptions but as representations of spiritual purification, self-discipline, the integration of knowledge and practice, and the attainment of divine proximity. Accordingly, this study demonstrates that Ma'rifatu an-Nik?? represents a synthesis of shar?'ah and ?aq?qah through a process of semiosis in which the discourse of marriage becomes a symbolic path toward mystical consciousness.
