This research aims to analyze how experienced retail investors select, interpret, and assess the feasibility of accounting information in financial statements as the basis for stock investment decision-making. The research departs from the rapid growth of retail investors in Indonesia, dominated by younger demographics whose exposure to investment information primarily comes from social media rather than financial statement analysis, raising the question of how experienced investors actually work with accounting information in practice. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method through semi-structured interviews with five experienced retail investors, using decision usefulness theory as the analytical framework. The findings show that the way investors select accounting indicators reflects the characteristic of relevance, with consistent profit growth serving as the primary indicator, complemented by a combination of ratios such as PBV, PER, DER, dividend yield, EPS, ROE, ROA, and free cash flow tailored to each investor's sector focus and personal values. In interpreting information, investors do not stop at the reported figures but assess the completeness of the picture and remain alert to potential material misstatements, reflecting the characteristic of faithful representation. Investors also require that an indicator be verifiable, either directly or indirectly, before considering it a legitimate basis for decision-making, with operating cash flow and free cash flow holding a particularly privileged position for being the most difficult to manipulate. These findings confirm that the usefulness of accounting information for experienced retail investors is not an attribute inherently attached to the information itself, but rather the outcome of an active process in which investors select, interpret, and test the feasibility of information based on their own experience and context.
