Tourism
contributes significantly to Indonesia’s economic growth, as reflected in its
increasing contribution to GDP. At the regional level, Bantul Regency,
Yogyakarta, has experienced a post-pandemic increase in tourist visits. One of
the coastal tourism destinations with high ecological value is Pelangi Beach,
which is designated as a sea turtle conservation area. Conservation programs
have improved the hatching success rate of sea turtle eggs, yet they still face
ecological challenges such as habitat degradation, plastic waste pollution, egg
poaching, and funding limitations. Meanwhile, the potential contribution of
tourists remains underutilized. Tourists visiting Pelangi Beach have the
potential to become an alternative source of funding through a sea turtle
adoption program. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing tourists'
willingness to pay and to estimate the value of their willingness to pay for
the sea turtle adoption program implemented by the Pelangi Beach conservation
authority. The method used in this research is the Contingent Valuation Method
(CVM) with an ordered probit regression model. The results show that income and
environmental awareness have a positive and significant effect, while age and
knowledge about sea turtles do not have a significant effect. The expected
willingness to pay value is estimated at IDR 20,339 per month. These findings
provide empirical evidence that the turtle adoption program has the potential
to become an initiative that not only supports tourism-based economic
development but also contributes to ecosystem sustainability and environmental
conservation.
