Tesis ini mengkaji kategori leksikal dalam As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow karya Zoulfa Katouh (2022) dan The Beekeeper of Aleppo karya Christy Lefteri (2019) melalui pendekatan stilistika korpus.

This thesis investigates lexical categories in As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh (2022) and The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri (2019) through a corpus stylistic approach. The study focuses on the analysis of pronouns, nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs to identify stylistic tendencies through lexical choices and semantic clusters, and to examine how these tendencies shape the representation of the Syrian conflict, trauma, and displacement in the two novels. A mixed-method approach combining corpus analysis and stylistic interpretation based on Leech and Short (2007) was employed. Two corpora, comprising 207,242 tokens for the Lemon Trees Corpus (LTC) and 165,348 tokens for The Beekeeper Corpus (TBC), were analyzed using AntConc and TagAnt. Frequency analysis, normalized frequency, chi-square tests, semantic clustering, and contextual analysis were used to compare lexical patterns. The chi-square test resulted in a value of X2 = 160.99 with df = 4, exceeding the critical value of 9.488 (significance level = 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference in the overall distribution of lexical categories between the two corpora. Semantically, LTC exhibits a stylistic tendency to represent war through bodily, psychological, and interpersonal experiences, whereas TBC emphasizes movement, environmental settings, and displacement. These stylistic tendencies are further interpreted in relation to the authors’ social backgrounds and the construction of their protagonists. The findings demonstrate that lexical choices function as important stylistic resources in shaping different narrative representations of war experiences.
