Contamination of commercial pesticide poses a significant risk towards our freshwater ecosystems as sublethal effects may incapacitate non-target invertebrates. When one species is disturbed within the ecosystem the whole web would not function properly and that in the long-term will cause problems in its biodiversity. The aim of this study is to investigate the chronic effects of exposure towards pesticide on feeding activity and phototactic behavior through using a model species of Gammarus pulex. A period of five weeks was done where leaf disc consumption was measured to assess the trophic function and light-dark behavioral assays were also conducted to see their habitat preference. Results demonstrated that there was a significant decline in the consumption of leaf discs across the weeks, which indicates that there has been progressive suppression. On the other hand lightdark behavioral assays revealed that pesticides increased dark occupancy during mid-weeks exposure, which is later followed by partial recovery. The result of this study suggests that Fipronil exposure induces behavioral changes within the species that affect both trophic performance and habitat selection. It highlights the importance of regarding how dangerous pesticides are when uncontrolled as chronic exposure may disrupt ecosystem processes even in the absence of mortality
