This research aims to understand the mode of being of money in human experience through an ontological reading of Georg Simmel's thought in The Philosophy of Money, using the horizon of Martin Heidegger's fundamental ontology. The research problem arises from a tendency in economic studies to understand money functionally as a medium of exchange, unit of account, and store of value, which has not yet reached the question of how the concept of money presents itself in human experience, nor how its mode of being can be understood ontologically.

This research employs a descriptive-interpretive method within the framework of systematic-reflective philosophical inquiry. At the descriptive stage, the research elaborates Simmel's thought on the formation of value through relation, distance, and exchange, as well as the position of money as pure means. At the interpretive stage, these elaborations are interpreted using concepts from Heidegger's fundamental ontology in order to understand the mode of being of money within the structure of human experience.

The results of this research show that in Simmel's thought, money is not merely an economic instrument, but a structure of mediation that shapes modern human experience through three transformations: value, action, and the experience of the world. Within the horizon of Heidegger's fundamental ontology, the concept of money in Simmel's thought reveals a distinctive ontological configuration as innerweltlich Seiendes (innerworldly being) through four dimensions: an unstable mode of presence, a transformation of the referential structure of action, a modification of the structure of world-significance, and a mediation of Being-with (Mitsein). Thus, money is not merely a medium of exchange, but a structure of mediation that shapes the way the world is disclosed and experienced in modern human experience.
