Alam karya Leila S. Chudori melalui kajian postmemory. Fokus
subjektivitas. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan
analisis teks melalui teknik close reading.
lintas generasi. Selain itu, konsep acting out dan working through
repetisi traumatis (acting out) dan upaya elaborasi (working through).
konteks sejarah politik Indonesia.

This
study aims to analyze the transmission of post-1965 trauma in the novel Namaku
Alam by Leila S. Chudori through the lens of postmemory. The focus
of this research lies in the mechanisms through which trauma is transmitted
from the survivor generation to the post-trauma generation, as well as its
implications for the formation of subjectivity. This study employs a
qualitative method with a textual analysis approach using close reading
techniques. The theoretical framework draws on Cathy Caruth’s concept of trauma
as disruption and Marianne Hirsch’s concept of postmemory to explain
intergenerational transmission. In addition, Dominick LaCapra’s concepts of acting
out and working through are used to identify the dynamics of the
post-trauma generation’s responses to inherited trauma. The findings indicate
that the transmission of trauma in the novel operates through familial and
affiliative mechanisms, mediated by fragmented memory, silence, and affectivity
within exilic relations. This transmission produces an identity crisis in the
post-trauma generation, which is caught in the tension between traumatic
repetition (acting out) and attempts at elaboration (working through).
Limited access to historical narratives due to state repression reinforces the
persistence of unresolved trauma. Namaku Alam represents post-1965
trauma as an experience that does not end with the survivor generation but
continues through complex processes of transmission, shaping the identity
formation of subsequent generations within the context of Indonesia’s political
history.
