STRATEGI FLUIDITAS GENDER DAN PERFORMATIVITAS TOKOH RE: DALAM NOVEL RE: KARYA MAMAN SUHERMAN

Penelitian ini mengkaji fenomena fluiditas gender
pada tokoh utama dalam novel Re: karya Maman Suherman. Berbeda dengan
pandangan umum yang melihat ketidakstabilan identitas sebagai krisis
psikologis, penelitian ini memosisikan perubahan gender tokoh Re:—dari peran
ibu, pelacur, hingga lesbian—sebagai sebuah strategi performatif untuk bertahan
hidup di tengah represivitas Jakarta tahun 1989. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah
membongkar bagaimana identitas yang cair dinegosiasikan oleh subjek sebagai
respons taktis terhadap kekerasan struktural, jeratan utang, dan tekanan
biopolitik yang mematikan.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif
kualitatif yang menggunakan pendekatan teori queer Judith Butler sebagai
pisau analisis utama. Teori ini digunakan untuk mendekonstruksi mekanisme
performativitas gender, sitasi paksa (forced citation), serta konsep
agensi dalam keterbatasan (agency in limitation). Analisis dilakukan
dengan membedah data tekstual berupa narasi dan dialog yang menunjukkan
pergeseran identitas tokoh serta hubungannya dengan mekanisme kekuasaan
muncikari dan negara.
Hasil
penelitian menunjukkan tiga temuan utama. Pertama, proses fluiditas gender Re:
bermula dari internalisasi stigma sampah masyarakat (abjeksi) dan materialisasi
paksa tubuh sebagai aset modal muncikari. Kedua, Re: melakukan negosiasi
identitas melalui strategi mimikri defensif, komodifikasi orientasi seksual
(menjadi lesbian demi efisiensi kerja), dan pembelahan ego (splitting)
untuk menciptakan ruang aman sementara. Ketiga, kematian tragis Re: di ruang
publik tidak dibaca sebagai kegagalan, melainkan konsekuensi dari agensi yang
mengancam (threatening agency). Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa
likuidasi fisik terhadap tokoh Re: adalah bukti kepanikan struktur kekuasaan
dalam menghadapi subjek yang berhasil melakukan resistensi melalui fluiditas
gender, sehingga tubuhnya harus dimusnahkan secara paksa.

This
research examines the phenomenon of gender fluidity manifested in the main
character of Maman Suherman’s novel, Re:. Contrasting with general perspectives
that view identity instability as a psychological crisis, this study positions
Re:’s gender shifts—ranging from the roles of a mother and a prostitute to a
lesbian—as a performative strategy for survival amidst the repressiveness of
1989 Jakarta. This research aims to dismantle how fluid identity is negotiated
by the subject as a tactical response to structural violence, debt entrapment,
and lethal biopolitical pressures.
This
study employs a qualitative descriptive method, utilizing Judith Butler’s Queer
Theory as the primary analytical lens. This theory is applied to deconstruct
the mechanisms of gender performativity, forced citation, and the concept of
agency in limitation. The analysis is conducted by dissecting textual
data—specifically narration and dialogue—that illustrate the character's
identity shifts and their correlation with the power mechanisms of the pimp
(muncikari) and the state.
The
results indicate three main findings. First, Re:’s process of gender fluidity
originates from the internalization of the "social trash" stigma
(abjection) and the forced materialization of the body as the pimp's capital
asset. Second, Re: negotiates identity through strategies of defensive mimicry,
the commodification of sexual orientation (adopting a lesbian role for work
efficiency), and ego splitting to create a temporary safe space. Third, Re:’s
tragic death in the public space is not interpreted as a failure, but rather as
a consequence of threatening agency. This study concludes that the physical
liquidation of Re: serves as evidence of the power structure’s panic when
confronting a subject who successfully enacted resistance through gender
fluidity, necessitating the forced annihilation of her body.
