POLA REALISME MAGIS DALAM NOVEL-NOVEL MARYAM AL-??S?

Penelitian ini mengkaji pola realisme magis dalam tiga novel Maryam al-??s?, yaitu Innan? Ata‘affanu Ra‘ban (2023), Aktubu ?att? L? Ya’kulan? asy-Syai??n (2024), dan B?tsy?n? (2024), dengan tujuan mengidentifikasi pola kelima elemen realisme magis Wendy B. Faris menentukan elemen yang paling mendominasi beserta urgensinya, serta menelaah manifestasi kritiknya terhadap bias gender. Menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pembacaan heuristik dan hermeneutik, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa al-??s? secara konsisten menerapkan elemen realisme magis yang meliputi elemen tidak dapat direduksi berupa entitas kegelapan dan kejadian magis, dunia fenomenal melalui detail waktu dan teknologi modern, keragu-raguan yang tidak menentu, penggabungan alam psikis-fisik serta kehidupan-kematian, hingga gangguan terhadap waktu, ruang, dan identitas. Kehadiran elemen-elemen tersebut menciptakan ambiguitas yang menggoyahkan logika rasional dan memperluas makna eksistensi tokoh melampaui batasan fisik.

Pola realisme magis tersebut digunakan sebagai instrumen kritik terhadap praktik bias gender di dunia Arab yang mencakup pembatasan ruang gerak kreatif penulis perempuan, keterkungkungan sistemik dalam struktur patriarki, dan objektifikasi perempuan sebagai monster. Al-??s? menggunakan metafora supranatural dan distorsi tubuh untuk memotret represi terhadap intelektualitas serta fungsi reproduksi perempuan yang merampas subjektivitas mereka. Dengan mendekonstruksi pelabelan monsteritas sebagai strategi resistensi, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa realisme magis berfungsi sebagai estetika politis untuk merebut kembali kedaulatan identitas perempuan di tengah sistem yang opresif. Karya-karya al-??s? menjadi sarana paling jujur dalam mengungkap kebenaran struktural yang tidak mampu direpresentasikan oleh realisme konvensional.

This study examines the pattern of magical realism in three novels by Maryam al-??s?, namely Innan? Ata‘affanu Ra‘ban (2023), Aktubu ?att? L? Ya‘kulan? ash-Syai??n (2024), and B?tsy?n? (2024), with the aim of identifying the patterns of Wendy B. Faris’s magical realism elements regarding the most urgent elements, as well as examining the manifestation of her criticism of gender bias. Using qualitative descriptive methods with heuristic and hermeneutic readings, the results of the study show that al-??s? consistently applies elements of magical realism which include irreducible elements in the form of dark entities and magical events, the phenomenal world through the details of time and modern technology, uncertain doubts, the merging of the psychic-physical realm and life-death, to disruptions of time, space, and identity. The presence of these elements creates ambiguity that destabilizes rational logic and expands the meaning of the characters' existence beyond physical limitations.

This magical realism pattern is used as an instrument to critique gender-biased practices in the Arab world, including the creative space of female writers, systemic confinement within patriarchal structures, and the objectification of women as monsters. Al-??s? uses supernatural metaphors and bodily distortions to portray the repression of women's intellectual and reproductive functions, which robs them of their subjectivity. By deconstructing the labeling of monstrosity as a strategy of resistance, this study concludes that magical realism functions as an aesthetic politics to restore the sovereignty of women's identity amidst an oppressive system. Al-??s?'s works become the most honest means of revealing structural truths that conventional realism cannot represent.
