Fakta Cerita dan Keterkaitan Antarunsur dalam Web Drama Be My Boyfriend (???? ????): Analisis Struktural

Web drama Be My Boyfriend (???? ????) adalah sebuah drama Korea yang mendapatkan penghargaan drama terbaik kategori web drama dari APAN Star Awards tahun 2022. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, drama ini dipilih sebagai objek penelitian yang berfokus fakta cerita yang terdiri dari (1) tokoh, (2) alur, dan (3) latar menggunakan teori struktural Robert Stanton dengan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Adapun penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan fakta cerita dan keterkaitan antar unsurnya dalam web drama Be My Boyfriend (???? ????).  

Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa dalam web drama Be My Boyfriend (???? ????) terdapat dua tokoh utama, yaitu Oh Jina sebagai tokoh utama perempuan dan Lee Seungmin sebagai tokoh utama laki-laki, dan dua tokoh tambahan, yaitu Koo Hyungtak dan Oh Baul. Alur drama menceritakan hubungan tokoh utama yang berawal dari kontrak menjadi hubungan yang serius. Latar terdiri dari latar tempat yang berpusat pada Sekolah Menengah Atas Hwayang, latar waktu yang menunjukkan durasi hubungan kontrak selama 50 hari, dan latar sosial yang dibangun melalui perbedaan status popularitas. Setiap unsur saling memiliki keterkaitan dalam membangun cerita. 

Pertama, keterkaitan antara tokoh dengan alur. Sifat impulsif tokoh Oh Jina menjadi awal dari munculnya konflik dalam alur cerita. Sifat tulus tokoh Lee Seungmin mendorong perkembangan alur dengan dibantu peran Oh Baul sebagai penengah ketika muncul konflik dalam hubungan kontrak, sehingga alur bergerak menuju tahap penyelesaian. Kedua, keterkaitan antara alur dengan latar. Alur berkembang melalui perbedaan status popularitas antara tokoh utama. Berkembangnya alur dilihat dari jalannya alur tahap pemunculan konflik menuju tahap peningkatan konflik ketika hubungan Oh Jina dengan Lee Seungmin dipandang tidak sebanding oleh mantan pacar Oh Jina yang bernama Koo Hyungtak. Ketiga, keterkaitan antara latar dengan tokoh. Oh Jina sebagai siswi populer sering memanfaatkan posisinya untuk melakukan tindakan secara memaksa dalam hubungannya dengan Lee Seungmin, sedangkan Lee Seungmin yang hanya seorang siswa biasa cenderung bersikap pasif menerima semua perlakuan dari Oh Jina.

The web drama Be My Boyfriend is a drama that received the best drama award in the web drama category from APAN Star Awards in 2022. This research discusses the story facts using Robert Stanton’s structuralism theory (2022) with descriptive qualitative methods. The story facts consist of (1) character, (2) plot, and (3) setting. This research aims to describe  the story facts and the interrelationship its elements in the web drama Be My Boyfriend.

The analysis results show that there are two main characters in the web drama Be My Boyfriend, namely Oh Jina as the female lead and Lee Seungmin as the male lead, and two additional characters, namely Koo Hyungtak and Oh Baul. The drama’s plot is about a relationship between the main character Oh Jina and Lee Seungmin, which began as a contract and turned into a serious relationship. The setting consists of a place setting that is centered on Hwayang High School, a time setting that indicates the duration of the contact relationship for 50 days and a social setting established through the differences of popularity status. Each element is connected to each other in constructing the narrative.

First, the characters are connected to the plot. The impulsive personality of Oh Jina becomes the beginning of the main conflict in the plot. The sincere personality of Lee Seungmin encourages the development of the plot towards its denouement when the contract relationship ends and becomes a serious relationship. Second, the plot is connected to the setting. The plot develops through differences in popularity status between the main characters Oh Jina and Lee Seungmin. The development of the plot is evident in the progression of circumstances leading to the rising action when the relationship between Oh Jina and Lee Seungmin is viewed as incompatible within the school social environment. Third, the setting is connected to the character. Oh Jina, as a popular student, often utilizes her position to act forcefully in her relationship with Lee Seungmin, while Lee Seungmin, who is only an ordinary student, tends to passively accept all of Oh Jina’s actions.
