Teenage pregnancy is a public health concern in Indonesia, specifically in Bantul, Yogyakarta. High rates of teenage pregnancy will influence educational opportunities for young mothers, perpetuate the cycle of poverty, and limit their future prospects. Adolescents are at high risk of early pregnancy due to a lack of knowledge about contraception. The lack of understanding about pregnancy and its prevention methods, leads to pregnancy when teenagers engage in unsafe sexual intercourse. This study aims to discuss evidence on perceptions, practices, and understanding related to contraceptive use and its impact on safe sexual practice among adolescents in Bantul, Yogyakarta. Researchers examined the relationship between contraception and safe sexual practice among adolescents with quantitative data analysis techniques using a survey. The questionnaire was administered to adolescents identified from senior high schools who meet the inclusion criteria in Bantul, Yogyakarta. Inclusion criteria include students aged 15 to 19 years, they had lived in Bantul region for more than 6 months, and are willing to participate. The questionnaire contains questions about socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge about contraception, and their thought on safe sexual practice. Data collection was conducted in January 2025. In conclusion, this study found a statistically significant but weak positive correlation between knowledge of contraception and safe sexual practices among adolescents. Additionally, birth order and prior awareness of contraception were also significantly correlated with safe sexual practices, with prior awareness showing a negative correlation.
