Arketipe Tokoh dalam Novel A Good Girl's Guide to Murder: Kajian Psikologi Carl Gustav Jung

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis arketipe tokoh-tokoh dalam novel A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder karya Holly Jackson, serta mengungkap dominasi dari seluruh arketipe untuk menyampaikan refleksi sosial dibalik penulisan novel. Teori arketipe dari Carl Gustav Jung merupakan teori psikologi sastra yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif-kualitatif dengan teknik pembacaan mendalam dan analisis naratif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa masing-masing tokoh dalam novel merepresentasikan berbagai arketipe, seperti arketipe utama yaitu pesona, shadow, anima-animus, serta self yang mengalami perjalanan penuh konflik batin dan transformasi moral. Adapun yang teridentifikasi mewakili arketipe tambahan yaitu arketipe turunan dari arketipe utama seperti, pahlawan, kambing hitam, orang buangan, iblis, dan penipu. Ditemukan bahwa arketipe shadow yang mendominasi dalam penelitian ini. Dominasi arketipe shadow secara strategis digunakan untuk merepresentasikan kritik sosial terkait bias media, stereotip gender, dan ketidakadilan hukum dalam novel A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. Dengan demikian, novel ini tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai fiksi kriminal remaja yang menarik, tetapi juga memiliki makna simbolik dan refleksi sosial. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi dalam memperkaya khazanah kajian sastra melalui pendekatan psikologi arketipe sekaligus dapat membantu memahami bahwa tokoh-tokoh dalam novel tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai penggerak cerita, tetapi juga merepresentasikan struktur psikologis dan nilai-nilai sosial masyarakat.

This research aims to identify and analyze the archetypes of the characters in A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson, as well as to reveal the dominance of specific archetypes used to convey the social reflections embedded in the novel. The study applies Carl Gustav Jung’s theory of archetypes within the framework of literary psychology. The method employed is descriptive-qualitative, utilizing close reading and narrative analysis. The findings show that each character in the novel represents various archetypes, including the major ones such as persona, shadow, anima-animus, and self, which undergoes a journey of inner conflict and moral transformation. In addition, several secondary archetypes derived from the primary ones were identified, including hero, scapegoat, outcast, devil, and trickster. Among these, the shadow archetype is found to be the most dominant. The dominance of the shadow archetype is strategically employed to represent social critiques related to media bias, gender stereotypes, and legal injustice in A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. Thus, the novel not only functions as an engaging piece of young adult crime fiction but also carries symbolic meaning and social reflection. This research contributes to enriching literary studies through the archetypal psychology approach and demonstrates that the characters in the novel function not only as agents of the plot but also as representations of psychological structures and the social values of society.
