ORIENTASI INTERNAL DALAM NOVEL GARIS BATAS: PERJALANAN DI NEGERI-NEGERI ASIA TENGAH KARYA AGUSTINUS WIBOWO ANALISIS SASTRA PERJALANAN DAVID SPURR

Penelitian berjudul “Orientalisme Internal dalam Novel Garis Batas: Perjalanan di Negeri-Negeri Asia Tengah Karya Agustinus Wibowo Analisis Sastra Perjalanan David Spurr” membahas bentuk-bentuk peliyanan yang menonjol dalam novel Garis Batas. Penelitian ini dikemas dalam teori sastra perjalanan Carl Thompson dalam bingkai analisis sastra perjalanan David Spurr untuk mengetahui macam-macam peliyanan dalam novel. David Spurr dalam bukunya The Rhetoric of Empire: Colonial Discourse in Journalism, Travel Writing, and Imperial Administration memaparkan tentang macam-macam peliyanan yang terdapat dalam media, berita/news, dan juga karya sastra, salah satunya novel. Peliyanan yang dipaparkan oleh Spurr tersebut mengandung bagaimana konstruksi pemikiran Barat memandang Timur yang cenderung menilai wilayah Timur dengan pandangan orientalisme. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif, terdapat dua rumusan masalah yang akan dibahas pada penelitian ini, pertama, Bagaimana bentuk-bentuk peliyanan pada novel Garis Batas: Perjalanan di Negeri-Negeri di Asia Tengah karya Agustinus Wibowo. Dan kedua Bagaimana pandangan orientalisme yang terinternalisasi dalam bentuk peliyanan tersebut.
Melalui penelitian yang telah dilakukan terdapat tiga peliyanan menonjol dalam novel Garis Batas yang kemudian dibahas lebih lenjut dalam penelitian ini, yakni erotisasi dan estetisasi, afirmasi, dan dehumanisme/penurunan nilai. Adapun aspek-aspek yang memengaruhi pandangan peliyanan oleh pejalan tersebut muncul dalam menuliskan ceritanya, yakni dipengaruhi aspek ras/etnis, aspek bahasa, aspek ekonomi, dan aspek politik. Berdasarkan analisis peliyanan yang terdapat dalam novel dan aspek-aspek yang mempengaruhinya, pejalan memasukkan gagasan orientalisme internal dalam menuliskan cerita perjalanannya ke Asia Tengah. Gagasan ini terbentuk atas kesamaan nasib yang dimiliki Agustinus sebagai pejalan dari Timur yang melakukan perjalanan ke “Timur”.
The title of the research is “Internalized Orientalism in the Novel Garis Batas: Perjalanan di Negeri-Negeri Asia Tengah By Agustinus Wibowo—A Travel Writing Analysis Using David Spurr’s Framework”. This research examines othering particular points in the Novel Garis Batas. This research is packed in the theoretical framework of travel writing by Carl Thompson and David Spurr into the novel to research the othering points. David Spurr’s investigation in his book, The Rhetoric of Empire: Colonial Discourse in Journalism, Travel Writing, and Imperial Administration, explained specific othering, including in the media, news, and also in fictional books, such as novels. The othering explanation by Spurr explores how Western discourse gazes out to/encounters the East, which inclines the East within orientalist observation. Under qualitative methods, there are two questions through answer this research, first How does the othering acts in the novel Garis Batas: Perjalanan di Negeri-Negeri di Asia Tengah karya Agustinus Wibowo. And second How does internalized orientalism gaze out upon the acts of othering.
By the research in the novel Garis Batas, I discovered three othering points that stood out. These points will be considered to stand out in this paper. Three points of othering discovered are: eroticization and aestheticization, affirmation, and dehumanization/debasement. The influencing othering discourse of the traveler in this novel is examined through four aspects: the aspect of ethnicity/race, the aspect of language, the aspect of economics, and the aspect of politics. Based on the othering observation in the novel, and each aspect affected the traveler, by discovering the traveler, Agustinus Wibowo internalizes orientalism in the way he writes his journey in the Middle East. This concept is to be constructed under the serendipity of Agustinus as a traveler who comes from the East and travels to eastern countries.
