This study aims to describe the construction of women in Egyptian families through the short story anthology Alw?nun min al-?ubbi by ‘Abb?s ?af?? using Rosi Braidotti's theory of nomadic subjectivity. The data used in this study was sourced from media containing the construction of women in Egyptian families and the construction in the short story anthology Alw?nun min al-?ubbi by ‘Abb?s ?af??. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with three stages, namely data collection, data analysis, and presentation of the analysis results. Data collection was carried out using the observation and note-taking method. The data was then analyzed using a dialectical model, which links social facts and literary texts. The results of the analysis were presented in the form of descriptive narratives.
The results of this study show that the construction of women in Egyptian families is not singular, but rather layered and complex. Women are depicted as mothers who are synonymous with motherhood, sacrifice, and domestic roles; as monsters when they resist or deviate from patriarchal norms and are therefore considered a threat to the social order; and as machines when they are reduced to reproductive and sexual functions and their bodies are controlled by society and the state. Nevertheless, women are not entirely passive, but show resistance and negotiation through their life choices, courage to defy their husbands, and efforts to reinterpret their roles. This is in line with Rosi Braidotti's theory of nomadic subjectivity, which emphasizes that women's identities are fluid, dynamic, and constantly changing according to the socio-cultural context. Through the anthology Alw?nun min al-?ubbi, it is evident that literature not only reflects the patriarchal reality of Egypt, but also functions as a medium for social criticism that reveals the potential of women as active subjects capable of negotiating and reshaping the construction of their identity.
