KEBUDAYAAN MASYARAKAT HIJAZ DALAM NOVEL RIH?LAH ILAA AL-HIJAZ KARYA IBRAHIM ‘ABDU AL-QADIR AL-MAZINI: ANALISIS SOSIOLOGI SASTRA

This research aims to uncover the culture of the Hijaz society as depicted in the novel Rihlah Ilaa al-Hijaz by Ibrahim ‘Abdu al-Qadir al-Mazini, using the theory of the sociology of literature. The method employed in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach based on sociological literary analysis, which involves examining the literary work in relation to the social realities of society and paying attention to the interrelation among elements within the literary work itself.
The results of this research is there are seven elements of culture, as defined by Koentjaraningrat, found in the novel Rihlah Ilaa al-Hijaz by Ibrahim ‘Abdu al-Qadir al-Mazini. These elements are: systems of living equipment and technology, livelihood systems, social or societal organization systems, systems of knowledge, religious systems, arts, and language. The system of living equipment and technology in Hijaz includes modern machines such as devices for filtering seawater into drinking water and machines for compacting stones, as well as water storage facilities such as absorption wells and water tanks. The clothing and weapons used by princes and guards in Hijaz include robes, cloaks, headbands or ‘iqal, pistols, swords, rifles, and ammunition belts. The means of communication used by the people of Hijaz include the telegraph and telephone. The buildings and residences include libraries and houses in a classical Eastern architectural style. Modes of transportation used by the people of Hijaz include ships and car.
