Dinamika Relasi Sinema Korea Selatan dan Narasi Peaceful Coexistence terhadap Korea Utara di Era Presiden Moon Jae-in 2017-2022

Penelitian ini membahas proyeksi sinema division film Korea Selatan mengenai Korea Utara pada masa pemerintahan Moon Jae-in, khususnya dalam merepresentasikan upaya pembangunan perdamaian melalui narasi peaceful coexistence. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan encoding-decoding, penelitian ini menganalisis lima film yang diproduksi dalam periode tersebut untuk menelaah pesan yang disampaikan sineas mengenai persepsi terhadap Korea Utara serta kemungkinan relasi antar-Korea. Selanjutnya, penelitian ini menelaah bagaimana audiens menafsirkan representasi tersebut, khususnya dalam kaitannya dengan sikap publik terhadap narasi kebijakan peaceful coexistence. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa film-film pada masa Moon secara eksplisit menampilkan simbolisme koeksistensi dan kerja sama, terutama melalui penggambaran yang lebih manusiawi terhadap Korea Utara. Namun, interpretasi audiens menunjukkan resistensi terhadap pesan tersebut, dipengaruhi oleh latar belakang pengalaman dan skeptisisme historis terhadap Korea Utara. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sinema tidak berhasil secara efektif membentuk wacana publik yang mendukung narasi peaceful coexistence akibat keterbatasan dalam menjangkau kerangka interpretatif masyarakat yang telah terbentuk sebelumnya.

This study examines the projection of South Korean division films regarding North Korea during Moon Jae-in administration, focusing on how these films represent peace-building efforts through the narrative of peaceful coexistence. Using the encoding-decoding approach, this research analyzes five films produced in that period to examine the messages conveyed by filmmakers about perceptions toward North Korea and inter-Korean relations. The study further investigates how audiences interpret these cinematic representations, particularly in relation to public attitudes toward the peaceful coexistence policy. The findings indicates that films under Moon’s presidency explicitly illustrated symbols of cooperation and coexistence, especially through more humanized portrayals of North Korea. However, public reception was marked by resistance, shaped by deep-rooted skepticism and historical distrust toward North Korea. Thus, the study concludes that cinema, in this case, failed to effectively influence broader public discourse on North Korea, as existing interpretive frameworks among South Korean audiences limited its impact on the reception of peaceful coexistence narratives.
