A successful project is the goal of every project team. However, in the 21st century, there are a lot of unsuccessful projects. This is marked by the declining quality of project being carried out. A root cause analysis was conducted through literature review to address this issue. Several previous studies stated that individual decision-making performance is crucial in project management and determining project’s success. Therefore, improving individual decision-making performance and identifying the factors influencing it is important. According to several previous studies, crisis conditions probably influence individual decision-making performance. For that reason, this research examines the direct influence of crisis conditions on individual decision-making performance. Furthermore, the moderating influence of individual mindfulness and situational awareness are also explored, as these factors allegedly enhance individual decision-making performance.

This research was conducted using a quasi-experimental method. Crisis conditions were simulated using Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes video game, while individual decision-making performance was measured by completion time and the number of strikes. Furthermore, individual mindfulness was assessed using the FFMQ-39 questionnaire, and situational awareness was measured using the SAGAT questionnaire. This research involved fifty respondents selected through purposive sampling. Additionally, stepwise moderated regression analysis was used to analyze the data gathered from the experiment further.

This research found a significant positive influence of crisis conditions on completion time and the number of strikes. This indicates that higher levels of crisis conditions reduce the quality of individual decision-making performance. However, individual mindfulness and situational awareness did not serve as significant variables moderating the influence of crisis conditions on individual decision-making performance. A probable explanation for this finding is that individual mindfulness and situational awareness are not the only factors determining decision quality. Therefore, having high levels of individual mindfulness and situational awareness does not necessarily guarantee good decision-making.
