The Pontianak Metropolitan Area, governed by Regional Regulation No. 10 of 2014 on the Spatial Plan of West Kalimantan Province, is designated as a strategic provincial area with key sectors in trade and services, industry, and tourism. This metropolitan area comprises Pontianak City and several districts in Kubu Raya Regency and Mempawah Regency. This study aims to identify the level of urbanization and its influencing factors in the Pontianak Metropolitan Area. Using seven variables—total population, population density, population growth, non-agricultural population, built-up land, socio-economic facilities, and centrality index—this research analyzes the urbanization level in the region. The classification results indicate that the area consists of 22.89% nascent villages, 30.12% villages, 34.94% potential urban areas, 10.84% cities, and 1.20?vanced cities. Pontianak City, as the core city, exhibits a higher level of urbanization compared to its surrounding areas, such as Kubu Raya and Mempawah Regencies. The city also serves as a magnet for migrants seeking education, employment, and access to public facilities. Through Principal Component Analysis (PCA), this study identifies two main factors influencing urbanization levels. The first factor is socio-economic, encompassing total population, socio-economic facilities, and the centrality index. The second factor is demography and land use, including population density, population growth, non-agricultural population, and built-up land. These findings provide insights into the urbanization dynamics in the Pontianak Metropolitan Area, serving as a foundation for spatial planning and policy-making.
