Modern supply chains face an increased risk of disruption due to greater complexity and size. Disruptions, such as those seen in the COVID-19 pandemic, can affect the entire supply chain network due to interdependencies between parties. These disruptions can increase operational costs for manufacturers. To deal with this, companies need to build supply chain resilience - the ability to adapt and recover after a disruption. Resilience can be strengthened through risk management, resource reconfiguration, and flexibility in the supply chain structure.
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of sourcing strategies in improving supply chain network resilience and the factors that influence supplier selection at one of the garment manufacturing companies in Yogyakarta. Effective sourcing strategies, such as multi sourcing and the use of backup suppliers, are proven to be more capable of reducing the impact of disruptions compared to single sourcing. In addition, other factors that influence supplier selection are the demand tightness ratio and cost fluctuations of spot purchase and backorder options. The results show that a multi sourcing strategy is more effective in dealing with disruptions, with the importance of backup suppliers and backup options to reduce the impact of disruptions on primary suppliers. Under LIHF disruption conditions, the multi sourcing strategy can reduce costs by 6.8% compared to the single sourcing strategy, while under HILF disruption conditions, the multi sourcing strategy can reduce costs by 10.6% compared to the single sourcing strategy. This research provides important insights for designing more resilient supply chain networks, which are able to detect, respond to, and recover from disruptions while maintaining key supply chain functions.
