Impact of Private Equity on IPO Outcomes: 1-Year Stock Price Analysis in the Health and Technology Sectors

Tesis ini meneliti dampak dukungan ekuitas swasta (PE) terhadap kinerja saham pasca-IPO di sektor kesehatan dan teknologi, menganalisis 507 IPO dari tahun 2002 hingga 2022. Dengan menggunakan OLS dan regresi logistik, penelitian ini tidak menemukan hubungan yang signifikan antara dukungan PE dan kinerja saham secara keseluruhan, tetapi mengidentifikasi korelasi negatif dengan kemungkinan perubahan harga saham yang positif satu tahun pasca-IPO. Faktor-faktor seperti valuasi yang agresif, skeptisisme pasar, dan kondisi ekonomi makro kemungkinan berkontribusi terhadap hasil ini. Penelitian ini menyoroti kompleksitas dinamika pasca-IPO dan perlunya penyelidikan lebih lanjut terhadap faktor-faktor lain yang memengaruhi.

This thesis explores the impact of private equity (PE) backing on post-IPO stock performance in the health and technology sectors, analyzing 507 IPOs from 2002 to 2022. Using OLS and logistic regression, the study finds no significant relationship between PE backing and overall stock performance but identifies a negative correlation with the likelihood of positive stock price changes one year post-IPO. Factors such as aggressive valuations, market skepticism, and macroeconomic conditions likely contribute to these outcomes. The research highlights the complexity of post-IPO dynamics and the need for further investigation into additional influencing factors.
