Polis dan Tindakan Subjek dalam Novel Red White & Royal Blue Karya Casey McQuistion

Penelitian ini menitikberatkan pada eksplorasi konsep polis serta tindakan subjek dalam menghadapi polis dalam novel Red, White & Royal Blue karya Casey McQuiston. Analisis ini menggunakan teori polis dan migrasi yang dikemukakan oleh Jacques Rancière untuk mendalami konflik-konflik dalam novel. Fokus penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk polis dan memahami respons subjek dalam menghadapi polis, khususnya terkait norma dan kelas sosial. Metode penelitian dilakukan dengan beberapa tahapan, yaitu pengumpulan data dengan mengumpulkan data-data sesuai dengan rumusan masalah dan mengkategorikan data-data yang penting terkait dengan objek formal yang digunakan. Kemudian, penelitian ini mengklasifikasikan data berdasarkan teks pada novel yang memiliki relevansi terhadap polis, serta reaksi dan tindakan subjek terhadap polis yang mereka hadapi. Selanjutnya, tahap analisis data yaitu peneliti akan menghubungkan data satu dengan data yang lainnya. Hasil penelitian ini adalah Adanya polis yang berkuasa dalam cerita yang mengikat dua tokoh utama dalam novel, polis yang berkuasa itu sendiri sejatinya adalah norma dalam masyarakat inggris serta kekuatan kerajaan inggris itu sendiri. Hal ini tercermin dalam karakter Alex yang berupaya menciptakan ruang kesetaraan bagi identitas gendernya melalui interaksi dan keputusan personalnya. Hubungannya dengan Henry merepresentasikan bentuk resistensi terhadap polis, seperti aturan dan norma keluarga kerajaan Inggris, ekspektasi publik, serta tekanan media, yang membatasi ekspresi identitas mereka. Meskipun mereka menghadapi pembatasan dari lingkungan sosial yang kuat, Alex dan Henry berupaya menavigasi dan menantang tatanan yang ada tanpa sepenuhnya menentangnya. 

This study focuses on the exploration of the concept of the polis and the actions of subjects in facing the polis in the novel Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. This analysis uses the theory of polis and migration proposed by Jacques Rancière to explore the conflicts in the novel. The focus of this study is to identify the forms of polis and understand the responses of subjects in facing polis, especially related to norms and social class. The research method is carried out in several stages, namely, data collection by collecting data according to the formulation of the problem and categorizing important data related to the formal objects used. Then, this study classifies data based on the text in the novel that has relevance to the polis, as well as the reactions and actions of subjects to the polis they face. Furthermore, the data analysis stage is that the researcher will connect one data with another. The results of this study are the existence of a powerful polis in the story that binds the two main characters in the novel, the powerful polis itself is the norm in English society, and the power of the English kingdom itself. This is reflected in Alex's character, who tries to create a space of equality for his gender identity through his interactions and personal decisions. Her relationship with Henry represents a form of resistance to the polis, such as the rules and norms of the British royal family, public expectations, and media pressures, which limit the expression of their identities. Although they face restrictions from a powerful social environment, Alex and Henry attempt to navigate and challenge the existing order without completely opposing it.
