Batas Wates-Milir and Milir-Sentolo roads are the main access routes to Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) and serve as a link between the DI Yogyakarta province and other provinces. This results in increased vehicle traffic, which can lead to damage to the road pavement. To maintain the reliability of the pavement structure, road preservation is necessary. This study aims to determine the remaining service life of the pavement in order to provide guidance for selecting appropriate road maintenance alternatives.
The method used for predicting the remaining life of flexible pavement structures in this study is the mechanistic-empirical approach and AASHTO 1993, incorporating the principles of backcalculation from Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) test results. Analysis using the mechanistic-empirical method employs the ELMOD 6.0 program to determine elastic modulus values and KENPAVE for strain analysis. Damage analysis within the mechanistic-empirical method considers fatigue, rutting, and permanent deformation. Remaining life calculations for flexible pavements using the mechanistic-empirical and AASHTO 1993 methods apply the remaining life formula from AASHTO 1993. Data collection was carried out through field surveys to obtain primary data on existing pavement temperatures, while secondary data was gathered from the Balai Besar Pelaksanaan Jalan Nasional Jawa Tengah – D.I Yogyakarta and previous research findings.
The research results indicate that, based on the mechanistic-empirical method, each section will experience structural failure with the shortest remaining life, primarily due to rutting damage. The predicted remaining life of the pavement is 8 years for the North and 2 years for the South section of the Wates-Milir Road, and 4 years for both the West and East sections of the Milir-Sentolo Road. According to the AASHTO 1993 method, each segment of the road sections has a predicted remaining life of 0 years.
