The research entitled Moral Problems of Using Clickbait in COVID-19 News on Tribunnews.com (An Analysis of Journalistic Deontology Ethics) is motivated by competition in the online media realm has required online media to maintain its existence, one of the effective strategies often used is the use of clickbait headlines. The use of clickbait is rampant, including when the world is hit by a global health crisis, namely the COVID-19 pandemic. Online media is the main source for people to access updated information about COVID-19. Tribunnews.com is an online media that often uses clickbait titles when publishing news about COVID-19. The use of clickbait during the COVID-19 pandemic raises moral problems for journalists and editorial teams, namely between the obligations that journalists must carry out and the public's right to obtain accurate information.
This research uses a qualitative philosophical approach to actual problems sourced from literature studies. The research path consists of: determining the formal object and material object, data collection, data inventory, data classification, data analysis, critical evaluation and data unification. The method used to obtain the results of the analysis is philosophical hermeneutics, namely: description, interpretation, internal coherence, heuristics and critical reflection. All methods will be used to obtain a critical analysis of the moral problem of using clickbait on Tribunnews.com during the COVID-19 pandemic in the perspective of journalistic deontology ethics.
The results obtained in this study are first, the use of clickbait titles on Tribunnews.com during the COVID-19 pandemic is considered effective for online media to increase readership and news site traffic, but often sacrifices the quality and accuracy of the information presented. Second, the moral problems faced by journalists and editorial teams when producing articles with clickbait elements are not in accordance with the three ethical principles of journalistic deontology, namely honesty and accuracy, social responsibility, justice and impartiality. Third, the use of clickbait can cause information to be presented in a misleading or emotional way, which is contrary to the ethical principles of journalistic deontology.
